Ian Bell shelled ANOTHER slip catch this afternoon. Can anyone think of a worse slip fielder for England? I think he hangs onto less than 50% of the chances offered.

Minor Maggie 23rd May 2015 16:41

Just dropped another half chance.

Psyduck 23rd May 2015 17:04

Three times as many dropped catches as runs in the match for Ian Bell. It feels like England are playing with ten men.

Psyduck 30th May 2015 07:53

7 drops in less than 3 completed innings for England, all of which should have been held.

Zebroston Chase 30th May 2015 08:13

Who have been the worst offenders. Bell and Ballance?

Bell 3, Root 1, Wood 1, Ballance 1 and Cook 1 ("assist" to Bell).

Slip catching has been dreadful this series. I'd get Lyth in there.

One thing is sure, there will be an improvement in the fielding once Bayliss arrives.

New Zealand are a joy to behold in the field.

Psyduck 31st May 2015 19:48

3 more down today (Ballance at slip, Buttler and Wood at mid off) making 10 in less than 4 completed innings. I might be wrong but I don't think the Kiwis have dropped one.

That ballance drop was huge. If he had held on then we had all the momentum and could have knocked them over. It was relatively straightforward

11 catches down in this mini series now - Stuart Broad the latest offender.

iantevans 1st June 2015 11:24

Another one shelled Broad off Anderson.

Strange one really. Went with his left hand around himself when he could of at least gone easier with his right, but really could have got both hands to it on the dive!

iantevans 1st June 2015 11:25

Beat me to it Psyduck.....it was a rubbish effort by Broad though IMO.

D/L 1st June 2015 11:32

Broad actually tried to take it with his right when it should have been his left, or both. It was a poor effort, though.

Whoops got my left and right mixed up.....DOH!

Another chance flies at head height between Bell & Balance (I think) in the slips....neither goes for it :odd:

D/L 1st June 2015 11:39

I think that one should have been Bell's.

Psyduck 1st June 2015 12:04

I've not seen the replay yet but according to Cricinfo Bell has found a novel way to avoid dropping slip catches - to not even go for them. :bravo:

Notts Exile 1st June 2015 12:07

That's exactly what happened!

Drops have cost Eng 250 Kiwi runs in this series to date and 182 (admittedly incl two tough chances) in 2nd inns alone at Headingley.
