Essex should get promoted this season, after being beaten to it by Worcs last year.

Ravi Bopara wants to stay for life! :D

Essex Cookie 5th March 2007 18:53

Well, Essex are off on their pre-season tour to the Middle East! Should be good one, I wonder if Ronnie is fit again?

I'm sure Abu Dhabi in March is exactly the preparation for the county season that Essex need. I'm sure those pitches will be perfect preparation for trips to Grace Road and Swansea and facing high quality opposition like UAE academy (not to be confused with the academy from the University of East Anglia, who are probably better quality) will get the players in perfect shape for the new season.

If this trip has more to do with cricket than (a) money, (b) duty free shopping, (c) golf, and (d) someone's (Ronnie Irani? the now departed Darren Gough?) Dubai property investment I'll be amazed.

I think probably (a). Dubai seem to offer decent incentives to get top teams to play sport there. As current holders of the 20/20 floodlight cup and the Pro40 league Essex can demand top dollar.

Mind you its unseasonably warm here in the south-east of England, so they need good warm weather training when it hits a balmy 13 degrees on the first day of the CC.

Essex Cookie 13th March 2007 23:17

I doubt anyone is really interested, as there is a WC going on and it is a game against the UAE...but, Essex made 338-8 from 50 overs! :) Ali Cook made 61, Ronnie Irani 58 and Andy Flower 60. James Foster only managed 5...oops.

No idea how the bowlers got on though. Sorry!

High Druid Nathan Barley 14th March 2007 13:17

Cooky should be in the West Indies.......

Not sure why you missed out Pettini EC, but good to see him top scoring.

He should be there, yes! Surely he's better than Ed Joyce...? :(

Pettini's name wasn't there when I checked! :odd:

Cooky stepping up to captain the side in their latest game. Not sure the quality of the oppo is up to much at all, particularly their batting:

Ohh Cooky was obviously too shocked at having the captaincy thieved off him, that he only managed a score of five. :( This is probably what has happened to Straussy...

Hmmm beating Sussex is pretty good, do you know who turned out for them?

Adams out for 1...:D.

High Druid Nathan Barley 23rd March 2007 16:43

And we beat them without Ronnie who scored 100's against them for fun last year.

chris 23rd March 2007 17:02

Is your resident thug coming back this year?

High Druid Nathan Barley 23rd March 2007 17:14

No, the pieman cometh not. Overseas players are Danish Kaneira for the whole season, and Andre Nel and Andy Bichel sharing the second berth.

Also we have Andy FLower on a british passport, Grant Flower on a Kolpak and RTD on a EU passport.

Kiki 4th April 2007 23:26

First friendly tomorrow so good luck Essex....and well done to Ravi today. :)
