Australia v England 1st test 23-27 November Brisbane (the Gabbatoir!)

Hi all,

Nice to be back after a bit of a hiatus. Need to find out further what is going on with our board, but I hope some of you are able to get back and read. Missed you all, really I have.

Anyway, after a couple of weeks in the wilderness it is lovely to be back in time for the Ashes series (although I may regret saying that in the next couple of weeks!). Lots seems to have happened with the Aussies recalling Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine (who has been out of selection contention for 7 years) yet this for most still pales in comparison to the problems England face with their batting line-up and likely lack of firepower with the pace attack.

Anyway, for those of you who are going to be able to watch it live for most of the series, enjoy if you can and hope to see more familiar faces returning to the board.

All the best, and thanks to those of you who I mutually follow on twitter for having the occasional exchange. Cheers.

Yay - welcome back.

Good work by the technodroids who sorted it out.

England team confirmed - Ball gets the nod.

Middle order batting order could be a talking point - surely Ali won't be above WJB ?

Full team

JE Root (Captain), AN Cook, MD Stoneman, JM Vince, DJ Malan, MM Ali, JM Bairstow (wkt), CR Woakes, JT Ball, SCJ Broad, JM Anderson

Have finally managed to 1) enter a cricket related thread and 2) logon.

It hasn't been easy! But great that we have some semblance of a board at last .

Albeit minus smileys.

You're welcome.

Thanks, Aidan. Were you one of the ones actively getting things sorted? If so, great job.

I am a luddite but would it be possible for one of the administrators to send a blanket Email to all members with a link that works and saying now back up? Just an idea.

Apparently it's because Bairstow bats better with the tail. That despite both having better averages in the reverse positions and Mo hitting a number of quick 50's with the tail let alone a 49 ball ODI ton.

Nope, I don't get it at all.

Still, would rather those two at 6 & 7 than Marsh and Paine.

Can anyone identify when & why 'The Gabba'; became 'The Gabbatoir'?

It is good to be back - was getting worried that the rapture had happened and I was the only one left behind.

Cook nicks off early, but the wicket is reported to be rather lifeless.

Fatslogger 23rd November 2017 02:37

Decent work from Stoneman and Vince so far. Lyon is bowling well though. Cook’s wicket looked very familiar.

Michelle Fivefer 23rd November 2017 02:50

Oh, we’re back.

I was here before but it went off again.

Michelle Fivefer 23rd November 2017 02:51

Anyone worried about Cook?

Michelle Fivefer 23rd November 2017 02:57

The trouble with no Sky is you can’t get away from Vaughan and Boycott, they seem to be on TV and radio simultaneously all the time.

Big time. When did he last score any runs against a decent seam attack?

Fortunately Stoneman looks to have something about him.

Raining in Brisbane, an opportunity to see play from the 10/11 Ashes and watch a bit of Ian Bell in sublime form.....

Huzzah! This place is back. I've missed you all.
