Chief executives from "an overwhelming majority of counties" have come out in support of a formal proposal to split the County Championship into three conferences from 2020. The plan will be put to the ECB later this month and looks almost certain to go through.
What seems to have persuaded a number of counties is that because the plan reduces the number of County Championship matches from 14 to ten plus play-offs, they can use the space freed up in the fixture list to overturn the current plan to reduced the T20 Blast to ten group matches and retain the schedule of 14 Blast matches.
In other words, the counties want to trade off four CC matches for four T20 Blast games. You can see the financial sense in that, but what do people on here who are county members think of it in cricketing terms?
