Be bold, Notts folks. There may indeed be problems associated with a smaller squad and the likelihood of Test calls but this may be counterbalanced by the team's upward momentum over the last year. It's natural to feel pessimistic about one's club, of course. Having witnessed Notts' pursuit of the impossible at last season's One Day Cup semi-final, I was at Lord's to see them attempt a similarly mountainous task in the final. Surrounded by East Midlanders, as wickets tumbled, I opined that if Read could stay with Hales for another half dozen overs, they'd win the day. This was met with widespread derision but I wasn't wrong - there seemed something unshakable in Notts' belief that saw them through. Now, Read's absence appears impossible to cover but plenty of understudies have stepped up in the past. Have faith and have yourselves an enjoyable season!
