I wouldn't be too upset if Shreck missed out on the limited overs stuff. He is a wicket-taker but we have others and he can be expensive. If it gives Fletcher, Carter and Footitt more opportunities then it's all good.

We'll have to see what shape he's in. Just cos he can't take international wickets when he's down on pace doesn't mean he isn't still capable of tearing through line-ups full of county journeymen.

Agree, but I'm slightly worried about our attack next week. We could be going in with Adams, Fletcher, Franks, Ealham and Swann, with no Patel either. Could do with some news on Patto's injury.

Patto's out for 3 weeks, bad ankle.

No 2nd cap for him then! Looking more and more like it will be Mahmood or Harmison for that final bowling spot in the first test.

Sidebottom took 6/31 yesterday but wasn't the leading wicket taker in the game. That honour went to a Richard White who took 7/52. Ryan bowled 9.4 overs but White needed 21 to get his wickets.

Sidebottom did make 69 out of a total of 103 though and was comfortably the top scorer. I guess he would have been MoM!

Arse. Let's hope Sid is fit for the Lancs match...

Hales
Shaf
Wagh
Voges
Brown
Read
Swann
Ealham
Adams
Sid/Franks/Fletcher
Footitt

I think Footitt is fit? He could go round the park but his pace could be a real asset on the pitch at OT, and especially if Sid isn't fit we lack an obvious leader to the attack.

I was hoping 2007 would be the last of injury epidemics amongst our bowlers.

I really hope Mick doesn't opt for Jefferson instead of Hales to fill the batting vacancy. That really would be a backwards move. He should have to earn his place in the seconds...

Much as I would like to see Hales in the side at OT, I can't help thinking that Jefferson will get the nod especially as he was fielding as substitute on Friday.

Noticed former 2nds man Saxelby on the mark today for Gloces. Another one weve let go...

Wickets against Surrey in OD cricket with it nipping around is one thing, but it wouldn't have been likely he'd force his way ahead of Shreck, Patto et all this season or even next. If the lad wants to play first XI cricket then there's no point us being stubborn and holding him back, we've done the right thing letting him go imho. Wouldn't be surprised if we regretted it in 3/4 years though.

Footit played for Kimberley at Attenborough on Saturday (along with Samit Patel), so yes he is fit.

Saxelby impressed me yesterday, up around the 85-87mph mark and only 19

Maybe you are right gilo, i think we will live to regret it and this will happen again with the dads army policy notts have -

At the end of this season Ealham and Adams contracts are up so move them on, or more will leave

Saxelby impressed me too. It's a shame that he had to leave, but it is doubtful if he would have got into our first team as quickly as he got into Gloucestershires. Still, good luck to him as our loss is their gain.

I believe that Ealham decided last year that this season will be his last in first-class cricket. He's been a good servant to both us and Kent, so I hope he is able to bow out on a high note.

Hopefully Adams contract won't be renewed after this season as we can't play him in the 20/20 competition because of his links with the ICL. Newell has already said that he won't pick Adams for any of the games in case we get to the final as his selection would prevent us from being invited to take part in India for this years Champions 20/20 League assuming it takes place!

Indian cricket chiefs have made it clear that it's irrelevant whether an ICL player actually plays in the T20 competition, if he's on your books at all then you're not welcome.

He left the ICL after the first year so as not to jeopardise any future England/Champions League participation. I would have thought not, though no-one could have predicted the mealy mouthed reaction of the BCCI at the time.

Yes it is strange that they won't let Notts play in any Champions League because of Read/Adams but are happy for Patel and Hussey to participate in the IPL.

In other news the academy whooped Bridon in their first fixture in the Bassetlaw Div 1. Good move by the club to give the academy regular competitive cricket.

Remember they also wouldn't let Laxman play for you because of your IPL players.
