The BCCI doesn't like the ICL and therefore neither does the ICC or any other national boards. However the BCCI does like the far more disruptive and dangerous IPL, so so do the ICC and supine national boards. Champagne, cigars and vol au vents all round!

If we lose Dave Hussey, it will be a disaster.

The director of Notts was on radio five breakfast talking about the Hussey situation and how unhappy he was. If anyone is interested in hearing it, you can listen again on the radio five site.

I am beginning to hate the IPL! Sorry for hijacking the thread!

The IPL chairman fella has gone on record saying that Hussey has nothing to do with Notts and needs only a certificate from CA to play IPL. Only thing is, he signed a ******* contract, didn't he? This riding roughshod over other competitions really shouldn't be on... but as we all know, money talks. I don't see that we can stop Hussey from going, the money is too much for him to turn down and if we try to stop him it will damage the relationship between player and county beyond repair. So we'll have to compromise, somehow.

Modi has now said "David Hussey has nothing to do with Nottinghamshire, as far as we are concerned he only needs an NOC (No Objection Certificate)from his home board." Just how does a player who signed a 2 year contract with Notts have nothing to do with them? If Hussey goes back on his contract, I hope Notts sue him (and I'm a fan of Hussey, or used to be). Perhaps they could sue the IPL as well.

We probably will compromise, but we shouldn't. If he breaks the terms of his contract, we should tell him how unimpressed we are with his lack of integrity and that we don't want him near our team - he may then laugh all the way to the bank, but hopefully with his conscience troubling him. Of course, that would weaken the team so it's not likely to happen.

I agree - sue them all!!

The difference between Dave Hussey and, urrm, Bilal Shafayat in our team is humongous.

These bloody stupid Indian leagues are ruining cricket.

Hussey definitely going to be missing for the first six weeks, Newell promises a top class replacement.

Eff off India.

From the Daily Mail interview with Stephen Fleming by Hussain -

NH: With all the county facilities and resources, why can't England produce a lad at the top of the order who can smash it like McCullum? Or a Jesse Ryder? A boy from nowhere who just comes in and hits the ball the way he does?

SF: There are some but you are trying to make complete cricketers out of them. Samit Patel at Notts is a guy who hits the ball extremely well but he's trying to play four-day, 50-over and Twenty20 cricket. England players become average all-round players rather than expert specialists.

I hope Patel has got a lot fitter for this season. I think he missed out on a Lions tour because of it.

You can always borrow from Lancs if you have injuries.
Sidebottom, Broad, Shreck, Harris, Footitt... Clough, Franks... isn't that enough. I bet Harmison will be back in the England team after terrorising the county batsmen and therefore Broad would only be away for the one dayers. I hope Read is going to give Footitt more of a chance.

Fastbowlersunion - There is also Ealham as well not to mention Fletcher, Carter and Saxelby who are three promosing seam bowlers in 2XI.

Harsh on AJ and Franks that, they might not be match winners in LVCC1 but I think they'll be steady enough.

Pretty much where I am. AJ and Franks are ok backing up better bowlers... Getting a Kolpak is not a prospect I relish, but a succession of loan bowlers (Hogg, Malik and Davies at least last year) is not a good thing either.

Perhaps harsh on Harris, looking at his average in 2006 (but averaging 40 in Div 2 last year doesn't bode well). Franks is a poor version of Ealham

2008 is make or break for Harris, Franks and Clough especially with younger players such like Fletcher, Carter and Saxelby breaking through into 2XI.

Notts have bolstered their seam bowling ranks with the signing of 19 year old Luke Flecther who took 21 wickets for 2XI last season. Fletcher is one of four promising youngsters coming through Notts 2XI along with seam bowlers Andrew Carter and Ian Saxelby and batsman Will Sabey.
