South Africa in Sri Lanka

South Africa being terrorised by spin in the first test. Did they have a warm up?

Either way, SL already nearly 300 ahead with 6 2nd innings wickets left. In their first innings, Dimuth Karunaratne carried his bat for 158.

It seems to be the time of the year for chinamen, both teams picking a specialist one in this match and Kuldeep taking England apart in the first ODI.

Markram seems all or nothing. He got a few ducks playing for Durham I seem to recall.

And is Bavuma really in South Africa's top six batsmen? Doesn't bode well for them if he is. The guy has guts but is lacking in ability unfortunately.

Not sure he needs to be one of the top 6 batsmen in the country. It's always a balancing act for South Africa.

Hammered Australia at home three months ago then humiliated in SL. Another poor advert for test cricket.

Says a lot about home advantage, though Australian and South African conditions are similar. SA were always going to struggle playing two spinners which is not their strength.

Additionally when they lost the toss and were confronted by spinners opening you knew it wouldn't augur well for them.

The Lankans batted well in their first dig though and that was enough to set it up.

Still they will take solace from Rabada becoming the youngest bowler to reach 150 wickets and doing so on an unfavourable surface. Steyn is now tied with Pollock.

Well one of them (Karunaratne) did and he became only the 4th batsman to totally outscore the opposition in his own two knocks (Hendren, Greenidge & Langer the others).

There are 5 batsmen who scored more in one innings than their opposition did in both - Abel, Hutton, Bradman, Inzy and Hayden whose 119 managed to beat Pakistan's 59 & 53 at Sharjah in 2002!!

I see Faf wants the toss to be scrapped.
