Yes, Bell and Matthews

Good question on AB.

On Smith/Cook, I don't think Smith being 1 means he's "ahead" of Cook. Smith and Petersen alternate who faces first, before that he always faced first. On the other hand, Cook is always number 2 (not a euphemism). I think it's just as simple as that.

Is that only looking at DI's runs batting 1 then? Or does it include runs when Petersen took first ball?

What happens if a nightwatchman is used?

Second option, I'd guess.

Lethal Weapon 2 was on the tele the other day, but why bother watching the whole lot when you only need to see the youtube clip, which grannie has provided about a zillion times.

I have to say that I don't understand how Finn lost so many points for that game. Its not like his match figures or overall performance were that bad, especially on a pitch that was hardly that helpful for seamers and that Bresnan similarly lost a whole heap of points. Any ideas why?

Don't know.
Anderson got 3 points for 4 wickets, one of them a batsman in the top 5 and Hilfenhaus get 25 points for 5 wickets Sammy (89), Barath (67), Edwards (43), Braithwaite (83) and Baugh (101).

Finn's wickets Jayawardena (51), Matthews (30), Prasad (109)
Bresnan Samaraweera (8), Herath (106)

Don't think they should have lost points.

Surely the reason why Anderson didn't get many points was that he has a full ranking. Hilfenhaus has played 22 tests, Bresnan 11 tests and Finn 13.

I guess with partial ranking you have more to gain but also more to lose. Anderson has played 68 tests and is bowling very consistently so I guess he doesn't change much. I'm sure if he has a good series agains the Saffers he'll go up.

The Howstat World XI uses a cut off that a player had to have played at least 20 innings in a given batting position in the last two years and then uses the players average in that position. Because de Villiers moves around between 5 and 6 a bit he has not met the 20 innings qualification for a given position. This 20 innings qualification is clearly ridiculous for lower order batsmen, having a look at Cricinfo only 4 batsmen in the whole of Test cricket are eligible for Howstat's number 5 position, and as of the current date none meet the qualification for the number 6 position.

I think itís due to a quirk in their database Ė namely it orders the openers by their debut date.

Yeah itís a bit of a quick and nasty system, which is a shame given the apparent power of their database. But still itís fun to keep an eye on it.

Went to see how much Wade's Test ranking went up after his century and sure enough he has now made it in to the top 100 at 69th spot. Imagine my surprise when I noted that his previous highest rating was 933 points way back on 4 July 2009! So I entered the associated date in to the ICC system and sure enough he was ranked number one! Not sure if they've been hacked or whether it's just a bug in their database, but check it out while it lasts:
http://www.relianceiccrankings.com/d...h=07&year=2009

Meanwhile I'll try and work out how to upload my screencap of it.

I'd expected Broad to gain far more points than that based on how much Anderson got when he took his 10fer but I guess the Pakistani batsmen were rated higher than Broad. 26 points though for 11 wickets doesn't seem much!

Apart from Chanderpaul at number one Bravo is the next highest at 21 but he was run out and then Swann got him in the 2nd innings as well as Chanderpaul.

WI batting in the top 100 (at the moment but would have been different before the match)

53 - Edwards - Anderson
55 - Samuels - Broad/Broad
67 - Barath - Broad/Bresnan

81 - Ramdin - Broad/Anderson
101 - Powell - Anderson / Broad
