Both Davis and Gayle started well but both have gone.

Plunkett is an underrated bowler for England.

Looks like the batsmen are getting cold in the Baltic northern air that they dont fancy staying at the crease for long!

Durham in mid September with a 6.15 start......genius planning there.

Breaks are well and truly on.

Liam Plunkett should be going to Australia with the test side as first reserve seamer easily.

A cunning plan by the ECB playing the match at Durham in September. The Windies will find it very uncomfortable.

When Hales was batting this looked like a stroll for England. It's all gone a bit pear shaped since then.

Take moeen, stokes and woakes out of the side and you end up with rashid at 7. Top score of 9 from 24 matches. That is a problem!

Everyone will say why wasn't Stokes playing on his home ground.

Durham found it very uncomfortable and weren't happy, having marketed the game around Stokes they found he wasn't going to play!

Humbling defeat for England? Maybe. The loss of three wickets for four runs to take them from 64/1 to 68/4 perhaps the point it was more or less gone.

Buttler and Bairstow did pull it back with a fifty partnership, but the rest of the order below them scored 27 runs between them.

Doesn't help when three of your bowlers concede 2/112 off 10 overs between them, of course a major difference was windies got to 77 before losing a wicket whereas England had lost four by that score.

Is Root opening the bowling a clever ploy or just a waste of an over or two with the new ball?

Opening the bowling : 3 wkts @ 12.00
Bowling later in innings : 3 wkts @ 34.33

Strike rates not a world apart, 10.00 opening the bowling and 18.00 elsewhere. Yesterday was the first time he's failed to take a wicket opening the bowling and facing someone like Gayle is a gamble although the previous encounter Root "won" by getting him and his opening partner.

"rested" the official line, a few have come out and said that was the "right decision" but they might have told the county to avoid marketing the T20I using him and it does seem somewhat "limp" to rest someone in a game in which they'd maybe bowl 4 overs and not for a FIVE match ODI series in which they'd like bowl 30+ overs

I actually think in this format, only Curran should be below him in the order, and you could even argue that Curran would be more effective. There's no way that Willey, Plunkett and Jordan should've batted after him. In an ODI, fair enough, but those three are far more accomplished at clearing the ropes.

To add to Durham's woes 3 people were injured when part of the new stand collapsed despite passing a safety inspection.

No doubt the ECB will be taking action.

Another 48 point deduction for next season should do it.

Perhaps a fine too.

Anyways. We dragged yesterday back quite well with the ball but after Hales went it was a bit of an arse. Could've done with Stokesy tbh.

Could do with Root not batting in the powerplay as well, I keep saying it but I still have no idea why Root is coming in with so many powerplayer overs left (in both ODI and T20i)
