Welcome back DVS and indeed everyone. Oh, and welcome back to test cricket James Vince - we never doubted your talent - with the first half century of the series.

Lovely innings from Vince but what a horrible way to get out. Lyon has bowled nicely today, probably the pick of the Aussie bowlers.

Welcome back everyone. Impressed the board reboot was completed on time, these big infrastructure projects often run behind schedule.

Even stevens - but a couple of early wickets and England are in the mire.

Same again required tomorrow.

Ozzies must be furious with the pitch.

This pitch reminds me of Taunton. Slow with tennis ball bounce and turning from day one. I know who I would like to see in the side.

Vince looked fantastic before lunch (then I went to bed). I felt joy when I woke a few hours later and they were still in but then gutted they had only added 20 runs!

I would have taken that when we won the toss.

Speaking of toss. Bt coverage. Ffs. Swann, Boycs and Vaughan might be okay as summarisers on radio but tv comms is completely different. They need to stfu.

Enjoy the series.

I'm quite wary that Boycott's suggestion that the rain and past week's gloom helped make the surface Lyon-friendly may well have some tration to it. Sun might get rid of that by the time Moeen comes to bowl and probably won't completely dry it out so today may have been the day with the most for the spinner.

Could make for an intriguing Test, England hoping the pitch doesn't get better for batting whilst wary that they are in a decent position but not a strong one as such.

Couple of early wickets and don't forget it's Woakes, Broad, Ball and Anderson 8-11 and whilst they offer something with the bat, the aussies will be lining up to bowl at them I'm sure.

Bit surprised Ali went in ahead of Bairstow, not least if Jonny bats for any length of time then has to keep so surely better he comes in earlier than later.

All the hype about Oz from them mostly already looks silly. They are not a strong side...England are a tad better but in Oz it will go close..if Anderson and Broad come good we will win.

Winning the toss has certainly helped here.

Facing the 2nd new ball first up in the morning will be a challenge for Moeen and Malan and crucially important to shape the rest of the innings. The Aussies could be under a lot of pressure with only the four bowlers if England could somehow successfully weather the first hour or so.

Imagine they will be looking to make up for the 10 overs lost with an extended day?

Thats quite a big "if" though.
Aussie batting looks a lot frailer than it used to when Gilchrist came in at 7 and hit a hundred for fun.

Starting 30 mins early tomorrow.

Boycs suggested the turn was due to underlying damp - and that it might dry out and reduce.

Forecast mixed though.

Last night was the first time Iíve watched cricket on BT Sport and, Alison Mitchell aside, I wasnít particularly impressed. Matt Smith was a fish out of water and Vaughan, Swann and Fleming were annoying. Boycs and Punter were OK IMO.

Woke up a bit early to catch the last session and I have to admit spent about 15 minutes wondering why sky were showing such a long video during tea, then wondered why I was lagging so far behind when the scorecard showed play had resumed...

Obviously one day’s play is not much of a predictor of a whole series, but I hope the score does prove typical in terms of the balance of play.

The news when I woke this morning wasn't as bad as I feared. Seems weird not to have it on sky but have access via BT sport app if I have any sleepless nights.
