A brave decision to send the Aussies in to bat. Still it is a day night match so different to normal Adelaide conditions.

The general feeling is that this drop in wicket can get more difficult to bat on as the match progresses, rather than the old pitch which was a batting paradise.

As Bradman once rightly noted. Win the toss - bat first. If unsure, think about it for a while, then choose to bat. If still unsure, seek all the advice you need, then disregard it and bat first.

Usually good advice at Adelaide though you never know. The match seems even at the moment.

England really need to wrap up the Aussie innings in the first session to justify their decision to bowl first.

They could be in big trouble if the Aussies bat the next 2 sessions, get a lead over 350 and then send in England under lights in the last session.

Tat from Jimmy. Wtf. Deep square leg and deep mid wicket. In the first 10 overs with a new ball. Get into them.

No luck for Anderson, two lbws given out but then overturned on review.

I fear for us when batting. We could have skittled them today with a bit of luck. Overton just made one leap which suggests our batsmen are really going to struggle. Back to sleep for me.

pitch is singing. swing, seam, pace, leaping bounce. aus bowlers will be a handful if they don't go silly with the short stuff.

The pitch doing a bit but Anderson has not always bowled the correct lengths.

They've all bowled too short this morning. Aus should have been cleaned up for 250.

Agree, this pitch has been so conducive to bowling and they missed a trick. Their attack simply seems to lack class bowlers in Aussie conditions.

Think it might settle down now until evening. Ali coming on.

Paine seems to have an issue with his finger though.

I think they have perfect collection of quicks for these conditions. they've all just bowled too short and inconsistent lines. Only Anderson got it right.

Thought that was the worst opening 2 overs Jimmy has bowled for a long time. Not surprised Root took him off.

Australia up over 350 now, hard to see England winning from here, they'll be battling just to avoid another loss.

England will most likely be starting their innings under lights which will be tough against the Aussie quicks, could result in carnage.

Anderson ought to be England's pick with most wickets for England and this being his FIFTEENTH Test down under, but he's currently (after 31 overs of this Test) taken 46 @ 39.22

Broad is into his 9th Test down under and now taken 28 wickets @ 30.89

The one stat some on here may be aware of, I hadn't noticed or read/heard it before, is that Anderson has not taken a 5wi down under. (4 in 11 Ashes Tests at home including a 10wm)

Anderson had a good test a couple of tours ago in steam conditions at the 'G, but other that he has looked a bit of a friendly trundler here. Clearly though he can be lethal at home.

The wheels have fallen off England here. Truthfully it all started at the toss though. This Adelaide pitch is dry and it is rare for any captain, even in less benign conditions to send the opposition in.

Oui, looking a bit ominous. England appears to be dispirited and it is hard to imagine this attack troubling Australia.

Remember that time we picked a reserve spinner that we did not think could be picked so instead picked someone who can't spin the ball properly?

This is going to get messy.
