"Firmer" as in ....? Oh right it's a typo. . We could do with someone a bit firmer than young Jake though. He just seems too "nice" to be a quick bowler. Haven't seen enough of Overton. Would guess that it would be someone like Bad Bob or Boths to give him a cap, if he gets it.

Gonna catch a few hours shut-eye and hopefully be up for 2.30 am. Hope some other masochists will be around.

Thought Id corrected the typo before anyone notice. Quite a funny one though.

Sorry for being a bit grumpy on you there. You're certainly right that if Ali can't bowl then Malan might have a chance to bowl a spell or two. Indeed, while his selection earlier this year on the back of one 2020 looked rather weird at the time (and not unlike Crane's in that regard), it may be that this was a long-term masterstroke in the spin bowling department. As for Crane, he must surely play at some point, hopefully before he's thrown away as a bad egg. With the cognoscenti always eager to announce any series not played in the subcontinent as one in which we don't really need a spinner, I guess his selection for this tour makes some sense in terms of development, but again that only works if at some point the management are allowed to deem a spin bowler worthy of selection in a series not played in the subcontinent.

Craig Overton to make his England debut in place of Jake Ball. A potentially tricky decision for the captain who wins the toss.

Root wins the toss and England bowl. They REALLY need a good first session.

Good luck Craig. Let's hope he does Devon proud.

Bold from root or is it a cop out? My worry is that even if we do brilliantly and bowl then out in two sessions then we bat under lights. On balance I would have batted.

Well this should be fun, I can't really call it. Though England have to win to keep the series remotely interesting.

Oh dear. This looks FLAT. I might cut my losses and go back to bed and hope I "buy" some wickets.

The odd one is moving late, but Broad and Anderson are missing their lengths and lines so far. They need 3 wickets in the first session to break even.

Strange decision to bowl first and I actually agree with the commentators which makes a change, PITCH IT UP!

Rain might not be a bad thing for England. Root and Bayliss need to give England’s bowlers an absolute bollocking.

PS: Can they not afford a proper cover in Adelaide?

Rain stops play again in Australia. What is the world coming to?

Stayed in bed listening to the radio. My heart sank as soon as i heard Root say wed bowl first. Not just because you have to really justify a decision to bowl first, whereas batting first is the norm, but also because of the fact that England had last bowled fifty overs at Australia in Brisbane without taking a wicket.

And here we go again....

Poorly judged decision followed by very poor execution.

Boycott just gave a bit of a lecture and I thought he was mostly spot on.
