Ireland ODI thread

Thought I'd start a thread to keep all the Ireland ODI matches together in one place.

Today was Ireland v Afghanistan. The Afghans batted and got to a respectable yet chaseable 227. Rankin and Murtagh had delivered some pretty controlled bowling and rattled up the wickets. However, the batsmen fell 29 runs short. The ever improving Balbirnie was the lynchman today, and once he was out, the remaining wickets fell.

Roll on game two.

All square as Ireland torpedo the Afghans at Stormont.

Great spell by Murtagh, his best figures yet for Ireland - 4/30. And for once Rankin goes wicketless.

In response, Balbirnie continues to grow in stature. Supported by Stirling and Singh, it was a comfortable victory with seven overs to spare.

Roll on the decider.

Didn't realise the series is being shown live on the BBC. Albeit on the red button.

oh dear, that fightback was short lived. Not a great advert for one of the two newbs in the Test fold

I'm guessing no Tests coming up which I would have thought would be a primary objective to get cracking in the format they've been given the status for........

One Test played apiece, India thumped Afghanistan whilst Pakistan made it look close against Ireland on a pitch which saw neither side less than 3 wickets down by 100 so a successful chase of 160/5 was not likely to be for many less wickets..........

The batting definitely needs reinforced. I would definitely sacrifice the 5th bowler, in this case Singh, to bring in Jack Tector or James McCollom or Shane Getkate. Rankin and Murtagh backed by Chase and McBrine is plenty enough of bowling, and can be supported by the part timers.
