Jason Roy sees out his international year in a similarish sort of way as he started the year with a quickfire 84. Many of you will of course know that he would get a series of 50+ scores without converting in India and then in the West Indies before totally losing his form at home and getting dropped. To me though he remains a fine talent.
How can I possibly quite leave out a valedictory effort from Ian Bell. It is harsh that he should gain yet another entry as it appears 77* is a fine effort in a very low scoring game but hey, it's his thread! And diametrically opposite to this thread's purpose is the legend that is Kumar Sangakkara who now bows out of first class cricket. 1492 runs at 106.50. 8 tons and 2 50s. ![]()

@CricProf
Tamim Iqbal and Faf du Plessis have the most amount of fifties (6) in 2017 without going on to make a century. |

Stoneman continues his run of a 50+ score in every tour innings. Shame he ruined it with a ton in the last warm up.

good to see this thread being updated folks! I've missed it so.
Anyway for a bit of fun who do you reckon will be the scorer of the most 50s this series? I'll go for YJB

How many 50s will Vince need this series for this thread to be renamed after him?

Perhaps a bit harsh to mention Root's innings today on this thread. But I was going to say something about his conversion rate before he got out. It was the commentators, also referring to it, who said "it's something he will want to rectify". This is how commentators speak about the players who can't ever be criticised directly

I might take a punt on Ali, just ahead of one of the (relative) newbs, not because they all scored one 1st Test but because just feel like not picking one of the primer targets. |
