It was kind of interesting listening to the England Stats Man during the Lord's Test on TMS (he had a really annoying voice). But what he pointed out was that whilst in recent years the 2nd innings in a match has produced more runs than the first, that is more than negated by the difference between 4th and 3rd innings. So overall, innings 1 & 3 generally beat 2 & 4.

So it's bat first unless conditions really suggest otherwise - they won't today (and they didn't at TB).

I reckon the toss winner will bat today. But may backfire. Weather seems OK.

England will field two spinners for only the fifth time this century at home.

Dull convention always. Woakes for Jennings would make a strong side. Xxxx the conventions of so and so batting at such a number. Open with Woakes. But still a good side on paper. Quite like 2 spinners.

Woakes is injured, no idea if it would affect his batting mind.

Woakes is injured and is replaced by Curran. Moeen has effectively replaced Pope.

Did not know W was injured. Batting first as predicted. Roots good at winning the toss.

Oh. Pity. Good luck to Jennings anyway. Will be surprised if he gets above 30.

Any bets on the opening partnership?

Wow. Jennings. The have never ever seen something like that before. Chris read ducked a Yorker but he lost it (Thorpe and Kallis also did the same in their careers). Staggered Jennings is playing. Incredible.

Top delivery but the walking wicket walks off. Let's see if any of the top 4 can score over 50.

Woakes seems to get a lot of injuries, doesn’t he? Every time he plays they’re saying he’s just coming back from one.
