Is this the next instalment of the A Song of Ice and Fire series?

Thankfully, BCCI has rested Kohli for this.

Malinga makes a superb return to ODI cricket for Sri Lanka. 'Desh fighting back now, though.

I was quite staggered to see that he's still on the scene. It seems ages since he played, quite badly, for Kent in the Championship!

Yup my thoughts were the same, he didn't do so well today.

There was an article on cricinfo questioning the involvement of HK after their drubbing by Pakistan but they are at least making a better go of it against India.

Most of the article content was reasonable though.

Hong Kong surprisingly strong. Well in this game. 140-0 needing 7 an over in next 20. Stupid star channel does not show India's total.

Are HK on to beat India?

144/0 after 30 overs needing only 286.

That's now essentially a T20 chase of 142...

Still probably won’t do it but a good effort so far.

Edit: excellent 31st over helps.

Obviously it's bad for HK's future if they beat India as India will just try and limit the number of teams allowed in the Asia cup.

So the optimum tactic here is to run them close before pretending to do a Somerset down the final stretch.

Did a message go out after the 34th over telling the HK players they'd had their moment in the sun?

It would be unfair to say that the article was questioning HK's involvement. It was mostly regretful over why such contests are one-sided and offered suggestions to better it. So, in a way, the author would be chuffed at what happened.

I still don't get why you'd take away HK's ODI status? Potentially, they are your gateway into getting the game into China and one would assume the caretakers of the game are looking at all ways possible to include a further 18 odd per cent of the world's population.

They played it to perfection.

I thought Herath was the only pre-2000s cricketer until I realized yesterday that Shoaib Malik also debuted in 1999. I thought he had retired, though.

Great stuff from Afghanistan - would love to see them win the whole thing. I find them to be a real breath of fresh air from the same old teams, and even worse the same old politics between those teams and their fans.

The subtext about the wider challenges in Afghanistan makes their cricketing success all the more creditable but also gives so much hope for the future of the country.
