Lyon finally gets one but Pakistan still fully in charge at 221/1

Lyon and Siddle have single handedly kept Aus in the game here putting the breaks on Pakistan. It could have got really ugly towards tea-time. Of course, none of this matters unless Aus can apply similar application with the bat. Batting 4 or more sessions is a must or they will lose comfortably.

Yes, a glimmer of hope for the Aussies, who at least showed plenty of form with the bat in the warm up.

Mitchell Starc must be the biggest disappointment. He's supposed to be the Aussies gun bowler and he managed 0-66 from 21 overs.

I thought this was quite a good article about adapting to some Asian type wickets. Quite often they don't spin much until near the end of the game. Looking at Lyons figures he certainly kept it tight today.

Don't think Starc bowled badly at all, really. On a pitch that didn't give an inch to the bowler.

Also, the Pakistan batsmen, especially Azhar and Haris batted exceptionally slowly. As I was telling someone- 18 off 50 balls is Test match batting; 18 off 80 balls on a placid track after your openers have ground bowlers to dust in the desert, is bulls#!t!

Seems rough to pick on him, but perhaps he's lost his bottle without his more abrasive senior colleagues in the side.

Lyon 49 overs 1 wicket

So far in the UAE 4 at 131.25....

All that toil for Lyon and Holland and Labuschagne gets a wicket with his 16th ball.

Lyon has kept it tight- Pk have had to battle for runs.

But this is a great effort by Pakistan - they are having a good test year.

Also highlights the big advantage for India in the test rankings not to have to face them in the UAE.

Of the six players in Test history with the worst bowling average in the UAE, three of them are playing in this match for Australia. #PAKvAUS

219.00 - M L Cummings
169.00 - J H Kallis
132.50 - N M Lyon
130.00 - KC Braithwaite
126.00 - J M Holland
107.50 - M A Starc

... wicket generator Lyon gets one

Do you really think Pakistan had ground Australia into the ground after just 63 overs of the opening test match of the series?

That would have been a valid argument on day 3 or on day 2 of the final test.

What was bulls#!t was the shot he got out playing.

As wayward as Johnson usually, only without the bouncer.

Good score from Pakistan. Seems unlikely they"ll need to bat again but you never know.
