Tom Maynard

There are very strong rumours that he has been killed in a car crash.

I pray they are wrong

23 years of age, with the world at his feet, for christ's sake. Now, THAT really is shockingly unfair. I got to see him play a couple of times this season and he put a smile on my face. What is it with Surrey players and cars, FFS? I feel sad and sick.

Terrible news. That's the third Surrey player to lose his life in this way in the last fifteen years. First Graham Kersey, then Ben Hollioake, and now Tom Maynard. He was only 23 and would (IMO) undoubtedly have become a regular England Test player in the middle order during the next few years, being nearly a decade younger than Trott, Pietersen & Bell.

Apparently he was hit by an underground train, not a car crash

BBC News now saying he was hit by an underground train at Wimbledon Station.

Please not another name on the long list in cricket's darkest cupboard.

This news is awful beyond belief. What a tragic waste. As someone said, a pretty much nailed on future England player that I was looking forward to seeing in action on Friday in the 2020 cup at Chelmsford. R.I.P.

What a waste, RIP. Don't know what else to say. News is still coming out, will be a while before we know the full facts.

It sounds more like an accident to me. He was stopped by police for driving erratically, and he jumped out of his car and the police chased him . He must have gone onto the tracks and would not be expecting a tube train to come along at 4.30 in the morning.

it is being reported he was electricuted by the rails. Sounds like he was running from the police after being pulled over.

It is terrible news. RIP
