Warners becoming very unreliable.
If I'm not wrong, he JUST made both the Test and ODI TotYs. The ICC clearly doesn't see it your way.

I didnt see myself talking for the ICC, where was that?
Another pathetic attempt today from Dave.

Are you stating that he doesnt have technical and mental issues at the crease?

If so youve got NFI.

My point was that your opinion that Warner is somehow not good enough is statistically inaccurate given that he was good enough to get into both Team of the Years and at the end of the day, that is what matters. Smith, by any and all accounts, SHOULD be deemed to have horrible technique as did Chanderpaul but that didn't matter at the end of the day. It's just the runs that you make that matters and in that sense Warner is doing fine.

AUSTRALIA SQUAD FOR SOUTH AFRICA TESTS:

Steve Smith (c), David Warner, Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, Tim Paine (wk), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird, Jon Holland, Jhye Richardson

So pleased that Richardson is in the squad. Lovely bowler to watch. 21 years of age. That's the ideal age to bring into Tests. Hope he gets to play but has only played 5 f/c games.

Surely the most surprising picks there are Bancroft and Handscomb. Whilst the latter is probably backup, Bancroft looks set to open against whatever Safa quartet they put out. I doubt that will end well.

I think the Aussie batting line-up now compared to 4 years ago when they last toured South Africa is a bit weaker as a unit. They had Rogers at the time as an opener, Michael Clarke as well. That said Smith is a better player now than then and he was bloody good then!

If anything SA has a stronger bowling attack now but weaker batting and quite markedly so.

Chad Sayers unhappy that 5-match Richardson was selected ahead of him.
He should be upset that Bird was selected instead of him. Bird, the Aussie bowlers said, was faster than any of the England bowlers and ended up bowling at 80mph and wicketless.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann described Sayer's as the 'logical choice' to replace Bird who injured his hamstring during Tasmania's Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland at the Gabba.

Bird will not tour if he is unlikely to be fit for the first warmup game of the tour which gets underway on February 22nd at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
----
Was wondering if Sayers did play for Australia then he would be eligible for county cricket and Sussex are interested in signing him. Experience for the Ashes next summer?

Couldn't find the Shield thread, but Victoria have rocketed back into contention after being last before the big bash. Really solid bowling unit. Siddle, Tremain, Boland, Holland, and Ahmed deserve credit for continually bowling sides out on that pile of crap they call a wicket at the mcg. Tremain in particular is excelling with the duke ball, bowling 140km outswing and leading the shield wicket tally with 41 @ 21 this season. Could be a smokey for the Ashes tour away. 20 year old Young gun Will Pucovski finally broke through his debut FC century last week, but sustained concussion during the latest round. His 3rd or 4th now, a real worry. Many rate him as the best talent since Ponting.

A couple of other young quicks to keep an eye on are Tom Rogers, who has 29 wickets @16 and Nick Winter who has now taken 4 five-fers in 4 games to also average in the mid teens with the ball. We're certainly not short on pace stocks. Just a few more batsman please.

Interesting claim on ICC Cricket 360 just now - Shane Watson as the last of Australia's "golden generation of the early 2000s" to retire. Not sure I'd call him golden, although the expression on Clarke's face whenever Watson mistakenly reviewed another lbw decision going against him was definitely priceless.

I need that missed run-out gif.

Looks heavily geared towards odi/t-20 world cup prospects. I'm not sure why they have such a hard-on for Travis Head as I don't see him being any better than any of the other run of the mill domestic bats like Lehmman, Patterson, Weatherall, Doran etc.

Yes, a shame Australia didn't wait until after their Conduct Review had been completed, although they seem to have realised this and are now denying that this is a done deal.

But I'm sure this is just the man Australia want leading them on their high horse

Someone who'll swear on his father's life that he's doing the right thing.

Someone who bangs onabout "the brotherhood of the baggy green" and "not ratting on your team-mates", who libels opposition fans and bundled up success in T20 cricket is just the person to overhaul team culture - he's already had a head start having stood in for Lehmann recently.
