England tour of Sri Lanka

Thought Iíd get in there early...

Just got back from a fantastic 3 week holiday around Sri Lanka. Particularly enchanted by Galle, thought it would brilliant to go over for the next series there...after strolling around the ramparts at sunset, I checked when weíre next due over...to find itís only next bloody October! Maybe the next one.

If anyoneís thinking of going in the autumn (or for your own countryís next tour there) I can heartily reccomend it, fabulous country, lovely people, flights were relatively cheap and we only booked just after Christmas. Galle would be my choice to spend five days in if you were going for a test, but we only really passed through Kandy and Colombo. Thereís so much to see/do before/after/between games and itís all pretty accessible on quite a small island.

Iíve been there the last couple of times we played. I was thinking that it would be later in the year so I am not sure I can do that either. I enjoyed my last visit when I went to the Galle test and did a tour of the Kandy and upcountry briefly.

Well it’s described as being in October and November so a reasonable range of possible dates.

As lovely as Galle Fort is, the cricket ground itself isn’t exactly the MCG, is it? Do they put up some uncovered seating or is it just those two covered stands with locals on the grass or watching from the fort/through the fence?

Yeah the cultural triangle and tea country areas are pretty spectacular. Great beaches east of Galle, especially the quieter ones.

From memory they did put up some covered tarpaulin areas, but you are right that the facilities are somewhat spartan. If the tests are at the end of November it might work for me but otherwise it probably wonít.
