At all times we have a batsman at both ends, so what's true for one is true for the other. The other has to deal with these things too.

That's why they always follow him with Morgan who has the same strike rate, albeit at a much lower average.

A 3rd innings unconverted 50 with Mitch Marsh going for an overambitious hit over the top off big Vern and departs for 96. However this might be a key innings in the match not really being that little and edging Australia towards 350.

He may have more or less the same strike rate on average, but unlike Root's it varies enormously from game to game depending on the pitch, the bowling, and the situation of his innings, and it can also vary enormously within the same innings as the situation changes. Indeed, to go back to the original point, Morgan is able to really ramp up the scoring rate significantly when appropriate. He's apparently versatile in a way that Root isn't -- in ODIs at least.

I'm not that keen on cumulative test and ODI stats but I make an exception for Joseph Edward Root. There has been a certain symmetry in that it has been 24 innings since his previous 3 figure score against the West Indies in the first test of that series last August. 12 innings each in tests and ODIs.

In ODIs there have been 5 unconverted scores of 50+ and 7 unconverted test scores of 50+ so that meant a cumulative number of 12 pretty little fifties in between the 3 figure scores.........

Another entry for David Warner. In his 7th test of the 2017/18 season (i.e. Ashes and here) he is now 1 ton to 5 50s. Not exactly Root level of course.

Did no one tell you that a joke is not funny if you have to explain it?

I assumed we'd moved on to Team 50's now seeing as there's no chance of anyone managing one on their own.

I did wonder if someone would post about a team 50 but you couldn’t accuse it of being pretty! Of course it still seems to be Bell’s fault!

Callum Bancroft gets an entry for a pretty decent 77. However I wonder if this will precipitate a collapse.

Utterly dumb from Stoneman when a top edge previous ball went for a fortunate six. Thereby a deserved entry onto this thread.

Will AB get a pair of pretty 50s in this match? Just because he scored a stunning 100 in the last match shouldn’t mean he escapes entry for his 61 this time around.

Root getting close...
