But they don't own a ground or make money on international games as, say, Warks do.

Which is why they are not mired in debt and crippling interest payments?

Is the answer something to do with Devon?

Not Yorkshire. Recently Colin Graves kept the club afloat with his own money. Even now there is a lot of debt.

Yorkshire not one of the richest counties - you are having a laugh?

Income of 8m a year, balance sheet assets of 27 million and Graves' money (mostly through a family trust, I think?) as the softest kind of soft debt?

I wish my county was that poor!

Certainly it helps having three Devon products in the attack.

It will be, once the St Lawrence is flogged off completely and the club moves to Beckenham.

Notts had 8342 members last season.

And Surrey are now claiming 10,329 members for the season just ended. It has become very hard to make comparative measurements due to the proliferation of 'buffet-stlye' ticketing offers. For example, some counties register those buying a season ticket for seven T20 matches as 'members' (which means they're paying for no more than 20 hours cricket in total), and some, I believe, have a more rigorous definition of what constitutes membership.

Danny Briggs is certainly a good signing for Sussex - gives us control in the 4 day set up and already a quality one-day bowler.

I would imagine we are now only talking about the overseas slot (assuming Magoffin becomes English eventually) as any addition to the squad, plus giving a few contract extensions/improvements to the existing squad

Dont think we will be losing any of the squad now, only thought reserve keeper Calum Jackson might seek pastures new.

Then its just the matter of whether there is any shake-up of the coaching staff, as alluded to earlier in this thread before we had a debate about how many members everyone had!

Excellent signing but not sure where this will leave Will Beer....again. It seems that Robinson has put up the defense shutters and will remain in his position until his contract ends or he gets a better offer. I think unless some dynamism is brought into the coaching set up getting new players isn't going to change things.

No idea how they got in to that financial mess but without Graves money they would have gone bankrupt.

Excellent impression made by new captain Luke Wright at last night's special Members Forum: honest in recognising shortcomings, challenging in how to face up to them, confident and articulate. Streets ahead of his predecessor, who was perhaps too reticent and in the end his form suffered under the weight of responsibility, aggravated by poor signings and injuries. If Luke Wright's approach is fully supported by his management then Sussex will bounce back and rebuild themselves a reputation in Division One.

Yes, he needs full support if he is to carve out an independent leadership rather than being Robinson's puppet. Which, if the rumours are to be believed, is his intention...

so Robbo goes to take charge of the England womens team and Mark Davis takes over at Sussex - dont have a view of Davo as he is fairly low profile, so will be an interesting few months to see how he develops (but we have seen from England that the number 2 can thrive under these circumstances)
