You lasted over two hours today before discussing him.

What did he average for the last 2 years of his career or should be still pick boycott because of his career average.

His team are playing big bash today aren't they? I might watch when the wicket falls

Competent Compton. Enjoying this battle. Could be an even fight. Didn't think we'd get 300 when 8 down.

Good to see the greatest number 10 in the history of test cricket back in form.

Don't be ridiculous. He didn't undo all his hard work, he just didn't manage to crack on and turn it into something truly special. Look at the rest of the scores. If he'd followed Cook's 0 and Hales's 10 with something similar we could have been all out yesterday. The tail is rallying, nearly 300 now and we'll see what the bowlers can do.

He was very lucky not to be caught very early.

Would we have taken 300 on losing the toss? Yes. Game on.

Do you really want to do this?

156 in fc cricket and 43.48 in T20 cricket this year; 24.95 in T20 cricket last year but let's just leave it at that, despite another England batting failure.

In tests and odi? Last two years before being dropped.

Moeen will win this match with the ball.

Sorry GbG. I really don't but it is quite amusing that every day England play cricket you have to mention someone with no chance of playing again.

how many more years until you give it up? Would he even be playing in this test? He leaves his team for Christmas in BBl so would he demand this of England too?

Worth noting that South Africa had three lbw decisions that were umpire's call. Let's see how they go for England.

I love it when lbws hitting are lucky. I don't think you need to make excuses just yet, I can see SA collapsing quite easily here.

It's like seeing the West Indies struggle when they're not picking their best team. Despite Broad's heroics (copyright D/L, I believe), we've struggled with the bat again. Meanwhile our second best batsman (Root's probably overtaken him) has just averaged 150 in fc cricket and an equally unbelievable 43 in T20. Yet astonishingly his form isn't apparently good enough.

If he'd played that shot yesterday it would've been a disaster yes but that doesn't make today any better. Games are often decided by small margins and his poor shot while well set may have cost us 100 runs. But 300 is much better than might have been and Compton deserves credit for his play yesterday. It's just very frustrating to see both our attacking and defensive batsmen getting out needlessly.

Anyone else hear Broad on stump mic earlier talking to Morkel?

"Not nice cricket weather today... still, better than Leeds."

Trolling the troll, brilliant.

Stokes' innings was typically irresponsible. A batsman that high in the order needs to have some regard for the match situation.

Impressed with Bairstow today and had to agree with Botham, for once, that when Broad arrived at the crease, it was reasonable to try to get on with it. Unfortunately, he didn't quite get the luck that Broad then did, narrowly failing to find a couple of fielders in the deep. Useful runs, though, but it has to be said that South Africa bowled very poorly at him.

We need a good start from our bowlers now. The wicket seems to be becoming quite batsman friendly.
