Leeds is not looking good. I am away at the moment but can't believe the scenes of where the Aire has gone.

300 score keeps us in the game. Just hope we don't miss Jimmy too much.

Yes, Compton did the job he is in the side for. It'd be better if he did it from one of the opener's spots, though.

That's as silly as it is predictable.

With Broad coming to the crease at #10, it was reasonable to assume the innings wouldn't last much longer.

It's just a few lakes down by the river in the city centre. The scorching Leeds sunshine will dry them all away today.

Didn't Broad top the averages in UAE and now undefeated in saffer land.

Did he? I wonder why he's not opening then. Could it be that figures can mislead?

Yes. We will pretend that broad can't bat and Adil got wickets. Deal?

Rescued by the tail again ... a bit ... I can't tell whether England are going to bowl for days and wish they'd picked another spinner, or whether they're going to knock SA over ...

I suppose it would depend on other less quantifiable factors. There'll be the option of pushing Compton up to open again and promoting Taylor to no. 3. But let's not think about it ...

Not really, because neither of those things are at all likely to happen. Last time around he was dropped because Flower's a d!ck, which I don't think can happen any more (the dropping because of it, that is) ...

What impressed about Taylor's innings yesterday was that he has developed his game and is now able to score, able to work the ball about and keep the scoreboard moving and the strike rotating.
Thank heavens for county cricket, then, as presumably that development is the kind of thing that could never have happened at test level with the help of international coaches. Personally I don't think that's why Taylor was dropped after 3 innings in one of which he was run out. The most likely explanation is the aforementioned Flower is a d!ck, coupled with the well known KP is a d!ck.

I don't doubt that they really really are. Better than no job at all though, I'd say.

I don't think Moeen is a world beater just that he is the best we have.
I think that a rival would have to be obviously much much better than Moeen as a bowler before there would be any chance of the choice between the two being decided on bowling merit alone. The argument for selecting Moeen was never that he is the best spinner we have. It was that no spinner is good enough to be selected as an England test regular on spin bowling merit alone in this day and age unless he is really a rather exceptional bowler, and after Swann's retirement and Monty's derailment there didn't seem to be such a candidate available. All this speculative bluster to try to suggest that Ali is our best available spin bowler, as if saying it again and again could somehow make it true, simply cheapens the debate. The selection of Samit Patel, a specialist batsman who isn't even the best spinner at Notts, as the person standing by to step in should Ali get injured, tells you all you need to know.

Why try to introduce another topic? Not happy with the way the first one is going?

A fabulous stroke of luck that as Van Zyl shoulders arms to give Stuart Broad yet another test wicket.

Lol. Would that have been luck had it hit his pad and been given not out?

Beautiful delivery from Broad that Amla doesn't quite get a nick to.
