We can't complain about umpiring. We should have reviewed that so it was as much a cock up by Cook and the umpire.

Surely though it is for the bowler/keeper to give the main indication and then Cook to decide. Stokes didn't seem to think he'd got him.

This is true. Two wickets stokes could have had if he had been forthright.

Batting last on this will be a giggle.

Last wicket and the non-wicket by stokes both raise interesting questions about umpire's call for height on DRS...

Feel bad for Stokes. Anyone else think if Broad or Anderson had shouted for that it might've been reviewed?

For certain, Smudge would've reviewed it, had it been the Aussies. There is a different mindset to the DRS. I used to feel England were better judges of the system, but lately I am less convinced.

Cook will probably now go for a sympathy review of something no way near out

Allowing a physio on for a stretch with 7 minutes left and people wonder why over rates are poor.

Our day just about. Such a shame that we did not review. It was odd timing to bring Finn back when Moeen was bowling well. Could be a belting match this.

Another 7/10 day again?

Should have had de Villiers a little earlier, should have reviewed Elgar. That said great bowling from Broad and considering we were inserted in bowler friendly conditions I would say we are ever so slightly ahead. Long way to go though.

Looking forward to D/L's assessment of the day.

Excellent innings from broad.
Excellent bowling from broad

Shoddy from bairstow part 1 - awful drop
Shoddy from bairstow part 2 - not appealing for catch behind
Shoddy from bairstow part 3 - the distance of his gloves from the ball for moeen's wicket.

I'd have said so. Up to a point I thought England had maybe ceded the initiative when the lower order collapsed but a decent innings from Broad as well as another high class spell of bowling means that England have the advantage, although not a comprehensive one.

Yet another incredibly lucky performance from Stuart Broad. Very nicely poised indeed at stumps on day 2. I think England have their noses in front but just one substantial partnership from SA will bring them right back into it. Is it another 7:30am start tomorrow?

He may be able to bat a little but is there a worse regular keeper in the county game? His glove work is very poor and could easily have cost England big time.

Not since gojo became a specialist batsman.

Out all day with the family so missed all the cricket.

It appears Broad has been as World class as ever & Bairstow had a bit of a shocker.....?!

think Moen was let down by the captaincy. He was supposed to have a holding role but didn't get the field for it. With the batsmen biffing straight he should have had a long on and a long off. Strange nobody said anything.

He bowled too straight. He sorted it out and his latter overs were excellent.
