Only on this board, surely?

If England lose it from here, they deserve the firing squad. Ok, I realize that is a tad lenient. I'm an old softie.

Only question is can Ali get a 5-fer of horrible wickets now to really wind Jock up.

Hi all, I think we are gonna be fine here. The "best batsman" on the other team just smashed a long hop off his boot and back onto his stumps. Just shows what the extra pressure of wicketkeeping for extended stretches of time can do to scramble the brain of a batsman.

Wow. Looks like 100 lead may have been enough.

Indeed.

My mind strays back to this morning when the bbc website was inundated with nonsense emails, tweets and texts bemoaning the England scoring rate and how we had thrown the game away, etc.

Strangely they have not been seen since.

The knock from Cook was so valuable, and the scoring rate suddenly seems a moot point.

Pray for Jock: life is pretty tough once you've gnawed both your arms off to the elbows.

Interesting that. I think England should have been a bit more positive particularly as a wicket where there will be a ball with your name on it in the end but I always felt England would win and getting past 200 runs ahead without much damage was definitely anxiety reducing.

To be fair, it did look as if England were going nowhere very slowly. And it's not as if such passages of slow progress haven't been blamed for England's failure to win matches in the past. And who could predict that SA would collapse in a heap like this?

Anyone would think this was the end of the series and SA were desperate to get on the plane home.

I don't think many would have foreseen such a capitulation but how many teams chase much past 200 in the last innings of a test match on a wearing pitch?

The scoring rate had little relevance for me, SA would have had a chase of 300 plus regardless, so all it may have done was delay a declaration but the result was in little doubt given how the pitch was playing.

If we had batted on and got a lead of 400 plus, it would have given us half a session less to bowl them out.

Doubtful for MOM. Root always wins out over other candidates.

Someone called Jurie has just pointed out to the cricinfo folks that Mo's average has only just dropped below 40. Has Jock got another alias?
