Mixes in a lot of off-pace stuff though.

It's alright, they provided a dollop of something or other in the blast a couple of Fridays ago. Well, Broad did at least.

I'm far from convinced that he's anywhere near international class but I've been wrong before so I'll just wait and see. |

How many utter donkeys have we had in the field since Panesar?

Think we were talking tests: Panesar was hardly an ODI regular. Hales hasn't been great and Gurney was also disappointing but don't think either of them could be described as donkeys. Buttler isn't a top notch keeper but hardly atrocious.

![]() I've seen some rubbish typed SV&Z but that's amongst the best. Should Reece Topley get a game he will be as bad as Gurney. Last edited by Notts Exile : 19th June 2015 at 15:25. |

My nine year old son's fielding is not "Monty Panesar-esque"!
And there in lies Monty's problem - If you cannot catch simple chances you are unpickable. His batting was never an issue and his bowling was Test class but he dropped important chances. |

Not defending his catching, which was utterly village, but I think that probably mattered less than the fact that there was almost always an extra run or more to him in the deep, where he was inevitably always stationed, so not seeing many catches but getting a lot of running around to (fail to) prevent 4s and get the ball back.

I think the only test spinner (as opposed to spin-bowling all-rounder) we've picked since Monty was dropped forever for having a sore leg has been Tredwell (1 test), whose fielding was probably about as bad as you'd expect from a spin bowling specialist.

Tredwell is an excellent fielder.

I wouldn't call him excellent. I'm not quite sure what Sans' characterisation means, as I don't think you can draw real conclusions about fielding from whether a bowler bowls slowly or not (a bit like how good a bowler is based on where in the order he bats) but maybe that was the point. Anyway, he's certainly not bad either. On a Panesar to Rhodes scale he's somewhere roughly in the middle. Mind you, most players are.

Excellent might be strong, but I've always considered him to be in the very good category. I haven't seen him drop the catches 1000ys mentions, but I have seen him take some very good catches, in the slips and in the outfield.

Speaking of spinners....Briggs was completely and utterly out bowled by Dawson today vs Somerset. Ironically Dawson is normally a brilliant fielder but dropped two today.

Evidence suggests Keepers are excluded from this.

Have to give the selectors credit for the one day pick a. They called it spectacularly correct throughout.
