Internationals are vs the best though.

I would say Buttler is among the best of the best. Would get into any T20 side, not all internationals are that good.

As I said before, it is a fool who judges a player's talent for proper cricket on what happens in T20.

It should be obvious that when every shot is an attacking shot, even good deliveries can disappear.

Fair enough, so long as you are not advocating for a place on the ODI or T20 squads for Bresnan.

IR Bell spending a little more time at the crease than he might have done of late with a reasonable start in Warwickshire's Birmingham Bears chase of 164 against Durham. He appears though to have crabbed up in the last over against canny Colly!

He is opening his shoulders and smashing stokes to all parts. Stokes should be out of the attack after two beamers but instead has three overs 0 for 44.

I was close to posting that he was choking the chase with his slow scoring but clearly he was just waiting for his England team mate to flay all over the shop. It was top batting against Stokes, in fairness. He'd hit him for consecutive 6s in his first spell too.

I must admit I'd missed the first few overs and only switched on just near the end of the power play. It was indeed a good innings and it was a lame end with a chip to cover when the ton was on. In reality though I think the two f/c games he has coming up for Warks are good preparation time rather than the special pleading (in fairness not from MF!) over him being dropped from the one day set up for the rather irrelevant one day games v the Kiwis.

That said it was almost certainly a boon he got some runs, no matter what the format.

Well, given that SV&Z tells us how important an indicator of suitability for international selection are a few overs in domestic T20, I thought I'd tune in to Durham v Warwickshire and watch Stokes in action.

3 overs, 0 wickets for 44 runs and he should have been taken off by the umpires after 2.3 overs.

I fully expect, therefore, that Stokes will be replaced in the squad by the admirable Collingwood or somebody called Hastings (assuming he is qualified).

Interesting to look at cards for Durham T20 games, in that Borthwick, who's largely playing FC cricket as a specialist batsman, doesn't even get to the crease at 9 in T20 so is regarded as a rabbity specialist bowler in the format. Good innings from Stokes too, although didn't go on long enough to have a major impact on the game and he undid his good work with his bowling. Bell batted very well against him but bowling two beamers looks a bit like he doesn't have the control required. I suppose we already knew that. England has picked a squad that effectively allows him to be a specialist batsman if required, which he ought to be just fine at. Missing Ali makes that more of a stretch than ideal though. The fear is that he'll be used as a fifth bowler and go for millions. I think there's enough in his bowling that targeting him hard will be a risk but I can see it paying off for NZ. It's hard to be too optimistic about this series, isn't it?

I've been feeling a bit guilty for mocking Tim Bresnan for his performance in the Roses T20.

I have been reliably informed his form this season has been outstanding in all formats.

Ballance caught on the crease by Tim Murtagh, out for 1.

I'm not surprised, he's probably shocked the batsmen with his extra pace compared to the rest of the attack.

Wrong thread, by the way.
