It does seem the Aussie selectors want to ditch The Big Show as soon as they get chance.

Apparently MMarsh might be made vice captain.

He really could be their equivalent of Buttler if given a chance but it is getting late in the day for them to even try it.

They are clearly trying to lull England into a false sense of security ahead of the Ashes.

Peter Siddle? I’d have thought better chance of bringing him in as a coach than as a player again.

Amusingly, Langer was justifying Finch's inclusion by saying he had 41 Centuries. He actually has just 28, Langer had added his International tons to his total list which already included them. He averages more in T20 than he does in FC.

Labuschagne has just achieved a pair playing for the A team against India.

He was bowling quite well for Essex (and better than Porter who may be touring Asia with England).

He's a long way from being the most ridiculous selectoral decision in that squad.

I have never been as disillusioned, disinterested & disenchanted with Australian cricket as I am now, not even close. What a pack of disingenuous turds the way they've treated Maxwell for years now. About the only thing I was looking forward to this summer was finally seeing him get a decent run in the team, and now we're seemingly robbed of that as well, over-looked for a raft of mediocre players with inferior records. I guess they must 'train smart.' And how rich was that, the leadership group issuing a fine to Maxwell for his 'disrespectful' comments regarding being batted below Matthew Wade in the shield team. The same shameful leadership group that systemically cheated, applied sandpaper to a ball and attempted to cover it up, had the temerity to fine someone else for being 'disrespectful' and then proceeded to drag Australian Cricket through the mud irreparably damaging it's reputation for decades to come. I hope we get humiliated by India, Cricket Australia becomes liquidated and the proceeds go to funding Afghani and Irish Cricket. Go to hell.

ps What has he actually done to be treated this way? Is it that he doesn't work hard enough? Has he upset someone?

He seems to have been caught whistling and looking out of a window for sure.

Hazelwood and Marsh made joint vice-captains.

One way of looking at it there are always going to be injuries with a fast bowler.

I never knew so much was involved in picking a vice-captain. Thought the captain just picked who he thought was best.

When Strauss was captain you weren't aware of who the vice-capain was.

“Mitch has successfully captained Australia A, Australia U19 and WA. He is an extremely popular member of the team, he has great humility, and given his lineage. he understands and respects the responsibility which comes with representing Australia and Australians.”

Can anyone spot the thinly veiled attack on the previous VC????

Australian Cricket really is the gift that keeps on giving at the mo.

Is it his lineage which keeps him and his brother in the team as well?

Not much different (if at all) to the right sort of family nonsense that Giles Clarke did a few years ago. Given the BCCI are regularly making idiots of themselves it is fair to say that the so called "Big three" are collectively a huge bunch of numpties (if I can use Scottish vernacular).

What types of Australians is he representing? The multicultural macchiato sipping Melburnian or the "played on after pooing myself during a game of rugby, and proud of it" type? Whoever, I expect most, outside his immediate family, would prefer he wasn't representing them.

Western Australian. We're not even sure what they're supposed to be, or if they're even really Australian. Indonesia and New Zealand are closer to Melbourne.

I'll be there next month. WA that is, not NZ or Indonesia.

Are QL playing Vic any time soon?

No idea. You can check the Shield schedule. If you can go check out a game at the new Optus stadium over in WA. She's a beauty.

The only thing Mitch hasn't done is earned his place in the side through regularly scoring runs or taking wickets lol. Really, a good odi player but that's about all it seems. Has had more than enough chances and has failed to do anything much. Perhaps his role now is as a specialist co-vice captain?

I notice in the domestic cup final Victoria went from 171-1 to 274ao and Tasmania from 67-1 to 164ao. Such impressive consistency to have the domestic sides able to replicate the test side.

Sorry MRNC4.0 & @geoff_boycotts_grandmother: ... u have short memories. Maxie was not chosen for UAE because he is INCONSISTENT. Yes he got a ton in Asia recently but that is his only 50+ score in his seven Tests. His average is a miserable @26.7. I, like you, have often pushed Maxies barrow.. but he continues to let us down. So I gave up on him. The man deals in mediocrity.
