Welcome to the Justin Langer era. Where hundreds weigh heavily in selection and batting for long periods is an expected minimum.

Australian captain Tim Paine revealed ahead of the tour that Langer had told his batsmen to leave "their egos at home and be prepared to bat for a long, long time".

Good to hear.

I wouldn't want a captain/coach who has these kind of ideas.....
Root - 'If it means opening batters bat in a more one-day fashion long term I don’t think that is a bad thing for the game,” he said. “It makes for exciting viewing'.
England could learn a thing or two from that instead of all this positivity rubbish where they're expected to dominate and end up collapsing in a heap.

I think I would like to see some evidence of Langer's approach working with his Australian team before praising it.

I have just tuned in for the last few overs before lunch. Starc and Lyon appear to be posing some threat, as you expect that they might, but I very much doubt that they can do it on their own. The sound I have on Star Gold is really poor, not helped by hearing Michael Clarke's whiny voice.

With a run rate under 3 too. Although to be fair, those two things are probably correlated.

Pakistan 100 without loss. Pity only 5 men and a camel watching. Depresses me. Tens of thousands watching 2 feral men scratch each others eyes out for 4 rounds and then the winner fights in the crowd but empty stands and silence here. State of humanity.

I find the UAE a strange statement on humanity. Apparently only 12% of the population are from the UAE and 43% of Dubai's population are Indian. If the wind turned and these shining pillars of human vanity were buried once more under sand, I'm not sure it would be a bad thing.

38 off the last ten overs, will have some on here fuming at such a extravagant run rate.

Sounds like classic Test batting to me....be cautious and watchful early on, assess the nature of the pitch and the bowlers' strengths, build steadily and then take advantage of the base by upping the tempo.

Top knock. In control. Would love to see empty stands at premier matches. Spurs manager looking bemused why wembley was not full yesterday. Fans should be paid to go. Gate receipts are minor income now compared to tv money plus advertising. Fans are taken for granted. Sorry..off thread.

Star Gold is Channel 729 for those with Sky.

Watch it on Star Gold and get the audio from wisden.com - it's Adam Collins and Geoff Lemon doing commentary. Adam Collins realized nobody had bought the radio rights and so snapped them up.

2 sessions 0 wickets

@brydoncoverdale
Worth remembering last time against Pakistan in the UAE in 2014, Aus leaked 80.15 runs per wicket. It remains Australia's worst collective series bowling figures by a long, long, long way. Lyon took 3-422, Siddle 2-217, Starc 2-142, M Marsh 0-110 #PAKvAUS

Australia still wicketless at tea.

The top tier of Wembley was closed due to restrictions imposed on Wembley by the council, makes sense to limit the game against Cardiff where we would have struggled to fill the ground anyway rather than the Barcelona game.

We were allowed to have all our PL and CL games at a full capacity last year but it took quite a lot of negotiation and Wembley limited the number of other events there, obviously with the complete kludge of the new stadium build there wasn't time to sort all that out this season.

Cheers. Thanks for that. Guess the manager also did not know.
