It's probably just you and the summer intern who came up with the test championship idea that care so deeply about it.

The only thing surprising about todays collapse was that it took so long to happen, and i'm sure JL will blame Khawaja for the collapse when he needs a reason to drop him in january so his dear ball tampering pet Bancroft can assume his position as opener and dual vice captain along with the eternally disappointing Mitch Marsh. Because if theres one thing more corrupt than the Republican party, it's the Australia selection committee and coach. Bravo to Travis Head & Lambushlasange on their debuts, what does it matter if they got ducks, as i'm sure they train smart, which is the sole priority of being an Australian test player now along with how many 30's, or 50's or whichever parameters they assign to their selection policy but lets not go too high as counting above ten is cleary a problem for the Booze and Concussion addled brains of Justin Langer, he the anointed saviour of Australian cricket who has both managed to be worse than Lehmann, and made me pine for the 'happy' days of Homeworkgate & Micky Arthur. What alternate dark reality do we live in wherein selecting Glenn Maxwell, aka the ONLY selectable player of the last two years who has scored a test century in Asia, is deemed as more of a risk than playing Finch and a pair of green debutants? Not only that, but they excluded Matthew Renshaw, perhaps the only Australian player capable of batting time ahead of a t-20 specialist and a PAIR OF DEBUTANTS WHO HAPPENED TO SCORE A PAIR due to 'conditions'? Pat Howard is a cancer on Australia cricket, and Justin Langer is the off shoot of the virus. Go Pakistan, grind them into the dirt.

I have a theory that Australia are fielding a duff side so not to destroy the confidence of their Ashes XI.
I'd be interested in what would be MRNC/theDon's XI for the Ashes and how many of those players are in the current XI.

If only that were true. No doubt it heightens the reputations of Maxwell and Renshaw (at least amongst the sane members of the public), but you flatter those in charge if you assume that they are even aware or cognizant of a greater plan, they are all morons, void of intellect or nous. Australia don't have world class batsman anymore, no world class keeper, no world class coach, management or backroom staff, and whatever world class bowlers we have are disillusioned, disgruntled, disaffected and probably complicit in being cheats and are forever being tarred as such. There is no unity, no cohesion, no belief, no public backing, interest or love or trust. This Australian team is barely a shell of a cricketing side, they are soulless from head to toe. I'm done with them, I hope they die out and England reinstate the Ashes involving New Zealand or someone else worthy of the title of participating in such a series, because Australia sure don't. They are a ghost of a team, and represent the last desperate fart of a dying corpse. Go Pakistan. |

England and Australia are the two teams that haven't had a great time in the UAE. New Zealand have gone to two tours and drawn both of them. South Africa have gone on two tours and have drawn both of them. Sri Lanka has gone on 3 tours and drawn 2 and won 1.

Renshaw Burns Khawaja SMarsh Maxwell Ferguson Paine Cummins Pattinson Hazlewood Lyon Langer to be mutinied and made walk the plank. Ponting to take over as coach. No Starc until he gets a pacemaker. No MMarsh till he gets some ability (and gets his average out of the 20's).

Surely Smith returns to the Ashes XI, and dare I say it Warner too? Although he can expect to cop Broad like abuse (and be significantly more deserving of it).

Why did Pakistan decide to bat again? Surely they should have tried to stamp on them while they were down?

I wouldn't find it that unreasonable if Handscomb were picked but would prefer Ferguson and Maxwell. Either way he isn't going to be in the top four and as Coolerking has mentioned, Smith will be back and probably bat at 4 anyway so no need for Smarsh.

It is always about making sure the bowlers are fresh. Sure, it would have been unlikely that Australia would have much cleared the follow-on but it is ensuring that the bowlers are good to go again a few days later.

re the follow-on - think they know the pitch deteriorates and they didnt want to be chasing, say, 120 on final day, which may be unlikely given the Aussie batting , but possible

It's unlikely we would make them bat again (who knows) but I'm still not seeing why they would enforce the follow on when they've got 5 days to dominate and rub it into us.
