Do I win a prize for that? Watson averaging 70 odd. Punter the same. Cook 300 and Jimmy bowled a brilliant spell. Broad and Johnson one wicket between them.

Top predicting!

I am now thinking 1-1 was a very optimistic prediction as the GABBA was 1 of the results, might come down to 1-0 or even 0-0, wonder when that last happened if ever in a 5 test series?

You definitely get points for Cook, but I think you're ok with Jimmy and Watson, at least in regards to "top". Jimmy bowled well but Finn tripled his take. Watson might average 70 but that's also his total for the series so not quite as much as it looks.

Meanwhile, I'm not looking too smart. This is why I don't normally do predictions. I actually thought I'd predicted 2-1 Aus because of the home ground advantage

Still a long way to go but there are a lot of predictions of 4 results (2-2, 3-1) which is looking extremely doubtful. Even 3 is touch and go.

I haven't done any yet, but as I'm so bloody good at predicting things I'll have a go:

1-1 (I think England will be 1-0 up going to Sydney and will lose the dead rubber)
Batsmen: Hussey/Cook
Bowlers: Siddle/Finn

Given that neither side looks like twenty wickets, shouldn't we all be predicting five draws?

There might be a few more if catches are held and they work out how to deal with Doris.

At some stage the Aussies groundsmen will have to produce a pitch with a bit of life in it. I still think that if England get 400+ in the first innings, scoreboard pressure will take over and it will be easier to bowl the Aussies out twice. Also, this was a rare poor game for the UDRS and its usage, plus Swann will come into the series more as it goes on.

That's a bit unfair. England bowled Australia out first time for 481 and took one wicket in 26 overs second time.

481 is a decent sort of score but not one that suggests the bowlers were at the end of their tether. England fans tend to get a bit panicky about big scores on overseas wickets as they expect teams to be rolled over for under 300 as in England to have any chance of England winning. That's because our batsmen are used to getting rolled over for under 300. Also there was some bad luck and on another day they would have been all out for a lot less.

One wicket in 26 overs second time round is fairly meaningless as England knew the game was drawn. It was observed that the players looked pumped and really wanting it but it was a bit of a sideshow really in terms of relevance to the match.

So have faith, SDC, of course our side is capable of taking 20 wickets.

Early long range forecast for Melbourne at Christmas

Quote:
Long-range weather forecaster John Moore said there was a 70-80 per cent chance of sunny weather on Christmas Day.

"At this stage I think it is likely to be fine with the possibility of rain and a few thunderstorms in the days afterwards," he said.
I think its time to put some money on 0-0

Back-to-back Tests are hard for bowlers and Australia captain Ricky Ponting said he would be assessing the physical condition of his attack closely. Although not officially stated as policy, the hosts intend to rotate their fast bowlers this series so that no one plays all five Tests, which suggests changes will be made here.

If that is the plan then it will be hard to predict who will be taking the most Australian wickets.

Those of us who went for Johnson as top Aussie bowler didn't exactly finish the course at the Doris Stokes school of forecasting did we?

I went for Johnson and Clarke. Hopefully I've jinxed both of them!

"not out" is at the moment a solid second in the Australian bowling, 5 wickets compared to Siddle's 6.

Well about the only part I stand a chance of getting right is the scoreline.

I've jinxed these players good and proper!
