I wonder how far away we are from an ashes series being opened the day before by a full Olympic-style opening ceremony.

Red carpet as well.

FFS it's just two teams playing a game of cricket.

Why did they not start on time? Why the stupid poor-quality singing and T20-style razzmatazz?

The only thing missing was Prince Philip going along the line shaking the players hands but stopping every second batsman saying "Sorry but my age I always need to go and have a p***".

If I had paid for this I would be quite annoyed. Who comes to a cricket match (other than T20 possibly) for "entertainment"? ;-)

The ball isn't carrying to the keeper from a 6ft 6 fast bowler on day 1 of a test. What a ****ing disgrace.

No, Birmingham and Nottingham -- and even Manchester -- are massively dry places compared to Cardiff.

First wicket gone. Given how the last half hour has gone I'm surprised he wasn't followed back to the pavillion by a New Orleans style jazz band.

Early wicket for Hazlewood. Innocuous delivery really - I've no idea how it ended up in the hands of gully.

Fair enough. I think it was there to knock away through the legside but he could have looked to hit it with a straight bat.

Proactive captain makes change. Starc has bowled two overs of garbage so Clarke brings Johnson in early.
