Strauss should've just said: 'I don't care, it's not an issue' about the Bairstow thing and then we could've just go on with being ***** at the cricket. Instead it's all gone kaboom and now Duckett has been hung out to dry. If there really is an issue with senior players/drinking culture then grow some balls and sort them out properly rather than half-arsing it and then punishing a Lions player for making Jimmy Anderson interesting off the field for once.

Duckett should just hit the T20 circuit and make his money as the England set-up has done nothing but **** him up since Bangladesh last year.

It won't be England's loss if he does.

Sounds like Duckett is an (in)convenient scapegoat for the hierarchy.

I thought England sacking the whistleblower after the last Ashes tour was supposed to have fixed team spirit and ended the culture of bullying by senior players of junior players.

So what prompted Duckett to pour a pint over a senior but mouthy England player?

There used to be a saying...what goes on tour stays on tour.

Doesn't seem to apply these days.

There may have been a similar saying but there has been public feedback on 'misdemeanours' on tour ever since Hannibal crossed the Alps.

Quite frankly some of the Lads' Culture is more befitting MPs and if Duckett hasn't got the nous to realise that pouring beer over Hot Pot is not on, however much one might want to do it, then I reckon his England career is over.

It's possible that he did it for no reason but pretty unlikely. Whenever I've witnessed that sort of incident there's been some sort of provocation leading up to it. It typically takes two to tango.

Suggestion in the Times that other players did the same, but if that's the case why was Duckett alone punished? Perhaps he was the instigator?

Lol at the ECB. Let's do everything to "rehabilitate" a violent thug but throw the book at a naive youngster (out with his senior players).

Serves them right that the police inquiry has prevented them from rushing Stokes back into the Ashes anyway.

Too many reporters on tour with not enough to write about, given the poor showing by England in the main event and little prospect of turning the tide in Perth.

Also too many players with not enough cricket to worry about and the Team Management seemingly incapable of organizing the proverbial “drinking binge in the distillery”.

Not really sure where you're going with that? Stokes hasn't been prevented by the police that's the ECB's choice.

Duckett wasn't exactly in the ECB's good books either....

James Anderson has just described the Duckett incident as a non event, which it was. In the current climate things have got out of proportion.

Turns out Duckett hasn't been selected for the Lions because of the Jimmy incident. As Vithushan Ehantharajah‏ pointed out on Twitter it's a shame he didn't crack Jimmy's eye socket as he would've been selected for the ODI squad.

Presumably Duckett's been suspended whilst awaiting to see if Western Australia Police will be charging him for assault.

Once he's been cleared by trial he'll be free to play again.

I totally agree - Duckett has been unfairly scapegoated.

Perhaps this thread should be retitled, "Ben Duckett - A shower of Promise"?
