ECB's 4(?) household names
Does anyone remember what this initiative/target was? Think it was around the time the ECB sold
The ECB wanted so many recognisable names/faces in the England team. Flintoff is a genuine star, but I'm not sure how many people would recognise him. Pietersen is obviously the face of English (sic) cricket, but would anyone else be recognised in the average home? |

Jimmy might be better on that than he is in ODI cricket.

Targets for the marketing men. Hmmmn. The way to get well known is to perform very, very well and catch the public imagination. Or to bed a well known bimbo and talk to The Sun about it, for weeks if possible.

the other thing to do is to do a Jesse Ryder or a Fredalo - normally gets you noticed and theres no such thing as bad publicity, apparently

Mark Ramprakash and Darren Gough are household names, as is Phil Tufnell.

Ian Bell never seems to be off cricket fans lips. Granted he is usually preceded with the word drop, but he is at least getting a mention.

Joe Root's not even a household name amongst the judges for Sports Personality of the Year these days

The original title is sort of rather ironic as in the test team there are only really 4 players who are definitely worth their place in the team at the moment. However non cricket fans possibly might not know who any of them were.

Giles Clarke probably thinks a cook, butler and taylor are household names if you come from the right sort of family.

I'd have been surprised if you hadn't seen this article gbg, but here is for everyone else. To slightly change to topic the current BCCI chairman Shasank Manohar, who is also current interim chairman of ICC after common sense prevailed over Srini (and not before time) talking a more concilliatory tone regarding perhaps fairer payments for countries who aren't India, Australia and England. My feeling is that it is a bit of hot air because Giles Clarke takes over the Chairmanship role of ICC in June of next year.

Pointless is a decent measurement on this, whenever there's a cricket question KP gets about 28, then there's the rest.

![]() Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler should all be superstars. They have real star quality to them, but it's hidden behind a paywall.
