Especially as there's no mention of Gavin Hamilton

Wisden editor just creeps into The Cricketer magazine Power 50 list

Wisden has always regarded itself as the ultimate authority on cricket - but that's not the judgment of The Cricketer magazine.

Wisden's editor Lawrence Booth just creeps into the Top 50 most influential people in English cricket - at No 50 - according to the latest edition of The Cricketer, published today.

1. Colin Graves, 2. Andrew Strauss, 3. Shashank Manohar, 4. Tom Harrison, 5. Joe Root, 6. Barney Francis (Sky Sports), 7. Michael Vaughan, 8. Alastair Cook, 9. Ben Gallop (BBC digital), 10. Gordon Hollins, 11. Mike Atherton, 12. Derek Brewer, 13. Lord Patel, 14. Martyn Wilson (NatWest), 15. Jonathan Agnew, 16. Trevor Bayliss, 17. David Lloyd, 18. Richard Thompson, 19. Mike Brearley, 20. Giles Clarke, 21. Andy Flower, 22. Mark Arthur, 23. Delia Bushell (BT Sport), 24. Clare Connor, 25. Neil Fairbrother, 26. Anurag Thakur, 27. Jason Ratcliffe, 28. Eoin Morgan, 29. Geoffrey Boycott, 30. Nasser Hussain, 31. George Dobell, 32. Steve Elworthy, 33. Matt Dwyer, 34. Wasim Khan, 35. James Anderson, 36. Paul Farbrace, 37. Moeen Ali, 38. Rod Bransgrove, 39. Simon Hughes, 40. Ben Stokes, 41. Kevin Pietersen, 42. James Sutherland, 43. Ian Botham, 44. Neil Snowball, 45. Bryan Henderson (Sky Sports producer), 46. Nick Hoult, 47. Mark Nicholas, 48. Nathan Leamon, 49. Adam Mountford, 50. Lawrence Booth.
But what do they mean by influential? Who do they think or hope is being influenced? Players could me to the attention of the public, but what does that mean? Is it influence on the cricket hierarchy, on the standing of the game itself or what? I would say that Andrew Strauss is the most important figure in Emglish cricket, well above Coln Graves.

Strauss is answerable to Graves though.

You feel Tom Harrison and Strauss are really in charge while Graves gets some 'mediocres' in.

Strange list.

Vaughan more influential than Cook? Morgan only just ahead of Hussain and Boycott? How does Delia Bushall have any influence when BT shows no Englsih cricket?

Have they not just got hold of Bob Willis' Enemies list and put it under a new title?

I'd put money on Strauss being able to negotiate that to his own advantage.

I know this is an old post but I agree with this...with regards to Root anyway. He is one of the premier sportsmen in this country but unless you follow cricket consistently, you won't even recognise him on the streets.

This is all down to the ECB and their selling rights to ALL cricket in England to Sky, which has a sub base of 8-10 million....with far fewer subbing to sky sports.

The thread title is ECB household names. But we've got sidetracked by an article about most influential people in cricket. The most influential aren't necessarily or even likely to be household names. I agree that our star players ought to be household names and the lack of a presence on freeview TV doesn't help.

Root might creep in, but I think you'd be talking the kind of cricketing X-factor type scenario so whoever best fits in a boyband might make it as a "household name".

Thinking Stokes might, Buttler if both played, be a laugh if Moeen was. Not sure a household name is something you can really expect like you might in football say, a lot of people don't like cricket, some will even go to lengths to tell you why it's boring even though that's as daft as telling someone who believes in god why he doesn't exist and vice versa...........

I'd just like to say it's a real shame that none of the England team share their name with a well-known cleaning or kitchen product as that would be a real funny gag about this "household name" business. Ben Toilet-Duckett is the closest I've got. Poor effort from the selectors.

I suppose Cook and Buttler obviously sound like staff but that's not the angle I was going for.

More of a niche item than a household name tbh

This should help increase Stokes' public profile.

The public can now identify him in a police line-up.
