He said it was because McGrath is a good friend of his. I would bat Akram at 8.

Surely theres a few more aparthied era Saffers that would be in there as well. Struggling to think of more bowlers and a keeper.
Jimmy Binks as keeper. Did he ever get a test? Can think of a few serious pacemen during the era of great WI quicks, but they might have got a test or two.

Yeah, he got a couple in India....a not uncommon story for 'best of the rest' players in those days.

The only serious contender I can think of who never played a single test is Franklyn Stephenson. Believe he was banned as a consequence of going on a rebel tour when fairly young and never got an opportunity later on. Highly effective in our domestic game for Notts, marvellous exponent of the slower ball. Hard hitting batsman who made runs too.

Possibly the fastest and even more probably the most aggressive bowler I've ever seen was the late Sylvester Clarke. Still rightly revered by the Oval faithful. He did manage a few tests although it would have been a lot more in other eras.

I was racking my brain for a West Indies quick.

Glenn Chapple and Trevor Jesty were unlucky not to get caps for England. Jesty had a couple of very good summers in the 80s and Chapple was better than some bowlers who got decent runs in the team.
