What's funny about that? His last test was actually against v Zimbabwe and he took a solitary wicket whilst going for 76 runs. Hardly impressive.

That's been the story of 2014 where he averages 59.

His last test five-for came in Feb 2013.

He's not an automatic selection.

Southee or Boult over either Roach or Philander.

Southee's got 70 wickets in his last 15 Tests whilst Steyn, Anderson and Broad are the only seamers to have taken more wickets than Boult - the latter two in significantly more Tests.

Could easily be persuaded by either. There's not much between them.

I see now the west indies have wasted Shiv by playing him at 5 all these years. Much getter to bat him at 7 where his natural counter-punching tendencies will come to the fore.

12th man as Cape Town may offer some spin - Rangana Herath

Funnily enough I would struggle to pick a spinner who will yet earn a place on his own merit outside of more favourable spinning conditions. Perhaps the Pakistani new spinners might get in the side in a few games. I don't know whether I'd have AB as the keeper too although I would have him in hte side as a batsman alone probably at the expense of Shiv. That means that despite his inexperience maybe I would go for the young lad Sarfraz, simply because he has a lot of dash about him. I concede though that it sounds a little optimistic as a result of a very good series. However as he may have got rid of the Akmal's surely that is extra kudos?

As you know I'm a big fan of Roach and would pick him ahead of Philander on pretty much all strips except for slower seam friendly pitches.

I can see the merit for Boult though instead of him, its just that I like the extra pace.

That's why I'm opting for Angelo - can play a wide variety of roles from number 7.

Heck I might even let him captain.

No wonder test match cricket is dieing if that's the best bowling attack in the world.

The first time I picked a World XI it came out something like:

Barry Richards
Sunil Gavasakar
Viv Richards
Greg Chappell
Mushtaq Mohammed
Clive Lloyd
Mike Procter
Alan Knott
Andy Roberts
Dennis Lillee
Derek Underwood

0-73 and 0-27 so far (Windies 6 down in the 2nd innings) for the Cape Town specialist.

Now averaging 258 over his last 2 matches at Newlands.

Ha, was waiting for that since the start of this test. Your copy-cat style is familiar.

No place for either Richards then? Barry or Viv? No Botham, no Anderson. I agree with most of your selection but I could select opposition for them which I doubt would take a 5-0 drubbing. How about something along the lines of:

Richards Barry
Greenidge Gordon
Kallis Jaques
Ponting Ricky
Richards Viv
Botham Ian
Hadlee Richard*
Knott Alan+
Trueman Fred
Anderson James
Underwood Derek

Now that would be a series! I put that team together pretty quickly and with more thought might have included Viv. It also pains me not to have Wasim Akram too.
