In ODIs I think he lacked the innovation in his batting to keep the scoring going after the power play, as the fielding side could then sit back and stem his runs.
Remember in the last World Cup against Bangladesh when they cut of that favourite shot of his to third man he had no plan B. A player with his talent you would think he would.

KL Rahul has now hit 5 half-centuries in 6 innings in the Australia series.

De Kock scored 90 today, to follow 91 in the previous match.

Those de Kock ones were a mix of brutality and prettiness. Not sure that Ian Bell was capable of such a knock.

Indeed. This should probably be re-named the Joe Root Pretty 50s topic.

Also getting a 90 with a huge effect on the match is hardly following the Ian Bell spirit.

Arguably it should be renamed the Joe Root pretty little fifties thread yet it doesn't have the same ring to it.....

A reminder from Ian Bell today about why this thread was dedicated to him in the first place.

In fairness, Warwickshire are now over 120 runs ahead with 5 wickets remaining. If they manage to survive today his effort might not have been in vain.

Might even be a chance of victory with Patel in the side and the amount of problems Batty caused. Still quite funny, though!

Misbah surely needs a mention on this thread although perhaps it's hard to describe any of his innings as pretty. He was left stranded on 99 yesterday, his 37th test half-century to just 10 tons. In ODIs, his record is even more spectacular - 42 half centuries and none converted.

Apparently only 6 times in test match history where that's happened. Includes Alex Tudor against New Zealand who wasn't stranded but was on 99 when England won the match.

It should be pointed out that another not so elegant batsman has 98 first class fifties, 53 of them being test 50s. 24 of these come in the last 4 years and in 48 tests. Anyone care to guess the identity of this player?
