Can't say AB isn't very good but he struggled too. Some strange malaise affecting the Saffers.

I'd say Miller's quality, too. His white ball records are very solid. Not many people average close to 40 above a run a ball in ODIs and his T20 record is that of a fine player. Still, though...

Strange malaise, or county cricket pilfering most of their fringe players?

The likes of Rossouw and Abbott are clearly a loss for SA but they still have sufficient quality to perform better than they have done on this tour to date.

You insult me sir! Would you prefer pistols at dawn or sabres ? I have a Masters degree in Pink Floyd. Herman and the Hermits? Nah, didn't like them . Was a Stones fan back in the 60s and even the Beatles were just another boy band once. I'm an old jazz and blues fan. I carefully weaned my daughter off the horror of New Kidz 15 years ago and got her interested in Amy Winehouse.

England win toss and bowl. First England game at Taunton for 18 years.

Eccentric decision to open with Jordan ahead of Curran.

First international wicket for Curran with his second ball. His first would have also lead to a wicket if England had posted a regulation fine leg.

They've done a really good job redeveloping the ground. I'm glad they've got an international match there.

It's a shame Crane hasn't got another game.

Looks like Saffers going to make a game of this one. Would be nice to have a close match.

What's this sudden change to "rotation" after the insistence of sticking to their "best side" in the ODIs?

Dawson gets Smuts just as he was starting to middle a few. Pretty even at the moment I reckon.

This is a relatively meaningless series - as such it represents a perfect chance to look at some young players. Also, they want to give the all format players a bit of a rest ahead of the round of orange ball championship matches.

They are.

Going back a post or two I agree with Psy over the lack of context of this series. I didn't even know that the game was starting at 5pm and only caught the last few overs of the innings. Then again I've seen so little of the champions trophy and not a lot of the early summer ODIs. Hopefully I will get more time to watch the test series so long as work allows me to.

I've not seen much either. Was away for some of CT and set to record the semi-final - but accidentally caught a headline on the iPad about England's defeat. I'm looking forward to the tests.

Don't see that often. Roy out for obstructing the field. Agree with decision.

There's only one quality bat in there and he's woefully out of sorts (one amazing shot for six aside). Other than that there's Miller who is ok and can be explosive when he comes off otherwise it's a lot of unknowns or not good enoughs.

They're just not very good.

They desperately need King Kevin.

Bit of a choke from England there, we looked to be cruising before the Roy dismissal. I guess it's the right call, players used to abuse running in the way of the stumps and it peed me off no end.
