17~2. Jennings. lbw Philander. Hmmm. Batting 1st at Lords often dodgy.

The plan is indeed "flawed", but with all 4 seamers having recently had injury problems maybe wise. Some may say I am just a biased Yorkshireman, but I would sooner have had Rashid in the team than Dawson. If we trust him (AR)enough to play in 50 over stuff, take wickets and keep it relatively tight for 10 of them, where is the advantage of not playing him. To my mind it can only be because of the batting. And Rashid is a good batsman at 8. Not as good as Woakes or Dawson maybe but still useful at 8.

Beginner's luck?! That was Yorkshire guile!! Cook was a useless tosser!
And according to TMS he "offers his bat" to the first ball of the day.

Seriously, I hope the captaincy will not affect Root's batting or his personality. Remember him taking the p*** of big bad Bob?

As I post Cook goes with a lazy prod.

Blowers on TMS atm. Love it while you can.

Hopefully, he'll get dropped so he can concentrate on the much more important business of scoring runs for Essex.

That wasn't out either but neither Jennings nor Ballance have the guts nor gumption to ask for the review. Muppets.

Yep. Not too Sharpe at these crucial reviews.

Jennings triggers himself. Philander is a much under-rated bowler but really, both openers out to nothing shots.

You're OK if your openers do their job, see off the new ball with no silly airy shots and know the lbw rule and how to use reviews. Australia did OK 2 years ago!

Boycs thinks its a good pitch and doesn't rate the England batting line up - JB and Stokes too high.

Philander is the best new ball bowler of the last 20 years apparently. While he, Morkel and Rabada are playing this series is very lose-able. Down to the Yorkie boys today.

Should they be at 10 and 11 then?

He bangs on about how great Bairstow is, so how can he be too high?

Ballance is playing late and back to everything, with Philander at 80mph that might be fine but what happens when it's Rabada at ~87mph?

Yep. They review decisions that are plumb or don't review when they should. If Jennings doesn't know where his leg stump is, doesn't say much about his test class status.

Tight bowling from the saffers, with philly doing his usual schtick. Time for one of roots counter attacking innings.

Boundary fielder in the wrong place - not sure Root factored that in.

Not sure he knows where his off stump is either. It would appear that bowlers will also have success against him bowling round the wicket.

To be fair to Ballance he is looking to be positive and is putting bat to ball against anything loose.
