Another good innings from Bairstow. Very unfortunate, though, to be given out on 99 by what the technology revealed to be a piece of guesswork by Dharmasena. Has "Hawkeye" not improved enough yet for error margins not to be so generously in favour of the umpire? Perhaps it has but the ICC is against changing things.

Unusual for Anderson to strike so early at Old Trafford. Perhaps all ends of all grounds should be temporarily named after the bowler operating at it.

Bad missed run out chance. Poor throw and Moin missed the stumps.

Gets the hapless Kuhn moments later.

Super bowling from Mo to send Kuhn packing. Did it carry to Stokes?

Solid effort by England so far today, showing the kind of application that was sorely lacking at Trent Bridge. The wickets in this series have been very sporting in general with something to encourage bowlers. Batting has rarely seemed a highly secure, risk-free proposition, making for interesting cricket.

This next session looks highly important as to which direction this match is headed with England fairly in control so far.

Been a brilliant spell from him. The best and most influential spell I've seen from him in some time.

The newly named stand may have done it. Looks like a fair 1st innings lead now.

De Kock falls! England can wrap up this innings in short order now with a significant first innings advantage. Hopefully Jimmy will snaffle one of the final two wickets remaining.

Bit of the long handle again from Morks and Rabs sees Malan get a bowl.

Brilliant spell from Anderson post tea has put England in a great position. Credit too to Mo for a superb spell. He kept it tight and could easily have taken another 2-3 wickets.

They were wrapped up in protecting the umpire from criticism from the off and haven't given up that ghost - yet.

If we're trusting the technology to give us accurate answers then we should be able to have black and white, hitting or not hitting (in line), pitching in line, not pitching in line.

If it is close then the umpires have nothing to worry about, it was supposedly set up to remove umpiring clangers and therefore the badly wrong ones are the ones will make them look stupid and those are the ones without umpire's call.............

The missing of the stumps was what made it bad, the throw wasn't pinpoint but close enough that a better 'sweep' at the stumps would have effected the run out

This series they've been 104/4, 119 all out, 61/7, 52/4, and 189/8 so it's hard to believe they've managed 300+ THREE times.

England won't hang about long this morning in wrapping up the innings I'm sure, been some pretty ordinary batting by the South Africans although facing some good bowling.

England will then get back to what they 'do best', making long and painful watching as they set a target. I'm guessing the old favourite of declaring around the final session of day 4 and a target would set a new World Record chase.....

Might not have as big a 1st innings lead this match, but as hard as batting might or might not be batting third it will be as hard if not harder batting last without the lead on top of innings score.......

Ideally Jimmy wraps up S.A. in the second over. We then bat a day and a half and finish S.A. in a couple of sessions. We missed a lot of relatively tricky chances yesterday. Weather held up well .... enjoyable atmosphere the Old Trafford looks pretty good now.
