Ambrose v Mustard
Yes its another wicket keeping thread but Read v Jones has had its day. Its time they moved over and let this debate take over.

![]() We'll only know that its a debate when slogger shows up otherwise such an attempt is futile but the thought has its merits, nice one Aidan! Anyway such has been the effervesence that Mustard has brought to the top of the order in ODIs I will motion that his counter attacking capabilities should make him a cert to take the test spot.

I heard that Mustard spilled a catch yesterday. In the light of Prior's droppings (to the ground and so from the squad) perhaps if Mustard is going to take the test spot he should do so on the basis of good keeping rather than good batting.

excellent FC record? Isn't his FC average about 20? In tests he would be a walking wicket. yesterday his daft dismissal opened the door to NZ. he could have hit it over the fielder or on the ground. Instead catching practice.

You've got lost in the maze of irony in FS' post I'm afraid. Not the first time that's happened

Mustard deserves a run in the one-day side, Ambrose in the Tests. Simple!

Otherwise he's going to making his test debut completely cold. |

Do you mean Davey Jacobs? He's not English qualified- he's a saffer. (I notice David Sales just behind on 68.63) |

Even better! When you look at Tim's strike rate as well, it is odd that there have been few, if any, calls for him to get a one day chance. Last edited by Kim : 13th February 2008 at 12:35. |

I'd hope he's being considered to come in at 7 for Bopara, despite the echoes of the two keepers in India 2006. Wright's debut in that position probably puts him ahead of Ambrose, but I'd prefer either to Dimi when our batting appears so feeble.

I'd agree with all that. Maybe if we lose the series quickly he'll get a game. I do think asking him to possibly make a test debut after not palying for so long is tough. He might fail and come back to Warwicks which I'd, of course, hate. Not. |

I'm not for one minute suggesting it's suitable preparation for a test series but there is a two day and and three day game versus Otago prior to the first test, so he'll probably get at least two goes with the bat. That said I'd be inclined to drop Mustard if he fails again at Auckland to get him into the fold.

Still think of Prior was treated pretty harshly. But out of Ambrose and Mustard it's a bit of a no-brainer really, Ambrose should be ahead of him in both forms of the game...
I'm still yet to work out how Mustard is even in the test squad. He would probably be my tenth choice keeper... |
