Is he playing for his own country now then?

Glad it's not all down to me to point this out ad nauseam. Maybe England's route to lasting success is to become the Northants of the international cricketing world?

It's the Queen's, not his. Starting next week in the middle of the night I hear.

Lets hope Ambrose hits a ton and doesn't drop anything on his debut.

He'll get slaughtered on here with calls for the next in line to be given a chance.

Sorry. I guessed that "AWC" had some Australian connotations but I don't know what they are!

Early in his Warwickshire career Ambrose gave by far the worst keeping performance I have ever seen - at Scarborough. Was like watching a petrified schoolboy keep. He as paralysed with nerves.

Should be fun if we get a repeat of that.

Who is the next in line? Foster can't be after his poor tour. Could it be Batty?

Thanks Kim for mentioning that. Interesting that Bell will bat at 5, I think thats a better compromise.

Good spot, I hadn't noticed that, with everyone assuming Bell would go back down to 6.

Given the likely weakness of the NZ "attack" - "pizza delivery service" might be a more appropriate term - then Ambrose, Strauss and everyone else ought to get some runs.

BTW, Batty's too old to be selected now. Though why he has never featured is a mystery to me. It's a mysterwy, oh it's a mysterwy, I'm still searching, forw a clue....

No, Collingwood should go to six, Bell should bat at 5.

Apparently the other day Ambrose was very slick with the gloves according to a report in the paper.

He says its because he was always seen as a reserve to Stewart - even when he wasnt (ie when he kept even when Stewart played).

Yes theres been a lot of rubbish said and written about Ambrose. He's a good keeper, not in the class of Piper. He's potentially the best batsmen out of all the keepers that are around today.

Yes, it is odd. It was David Ward who was really the reserve to Stewart and Surrey's next manufactured 'keeper.

A very balanced article on the whole w/k issue, I think, but I'm not trying to start any arguments for once, though one or two may care to disagree!

Please don't.

Im already getting very crabby about Ambrose on another web site before the game's even started. Looks like my holiday from my full-time internet job (arguing Giles V Monty) was a brief one.

Well that sure beats your other pro Boa Morte wind up! I really haven't seen enough of Ambrose to make a comment but all I can say is that I've heard his keeping is decent and that he can bat, whereas previous incumbents have had one or both disciplines as a major fault.
