I'm pretty sure that a lot of spinners in the past would have been discarded before getting to 50 wickets if they'd bowled like Ali. He's now got the worst bowling average in this history of the England team for anyone with more than 100 wickets I believe.

Moeen faster than Botham, Sobers, Imran to 2000 runs and 100 wickets This shouldn't hijack the rashid thread. Adil averages 42 in tests doesn't he? |

I wonder if he sees it as ‘exile’. I bet playing in the LO stuff is a lot more fun at the moment.

I don't think he likes the longer form of the game. He's never really bowled long spells in the county game and he's now cut the 4 day game out completely. I'm also not sure he really enjoys the touring for months on end that come with playing all formats. He's a much more accurate bowler than 3 or 4 years ago, so probably is better placed as a test bowler, but its one thing having the potential another the desire. He'll make more money on the T20 circuit doing what he enjoys, so why would he change it?

Agree completely. However I do wonder if some of our successful white ball specialists might reconsider things if we were to win the World Cup, having conquered the one day game would the likes of Rashid, Hales, Roy then focus, jointly focus or refocus on first class and test cricket, like Buttler is doing now?

Rashid apparently is not on great terms with Root and Cook was no great expert at managing spinners to say the least. Not really surprising he prefers the one day outfit.

One or two of the ODI players haven't really got a batting style to play the moving ball, so even if they want to try probably won't get the chance. |

I suspect Buttler would love to succeed at test cricket.
I think this was a chance he wasn't expecting to get. Now he's got it he'll be desperate to make the most of it.

Well either that or he was lying through his teeth on Tuffers and Vaughan the other week.

I don't know Rashid's motivations but he did surprisingly pull out of a County Championship deciding match. Some decent FC performances and I would have thought he'd be in the Test team? |

He shouldn't have been dropped from the test team after the India tour. The only explanation I've heard for it is that Root doesn't like him, and sadly that's a very credible explanation. Maybe he'll take up red-ball cricket again after Root has been sacked for being a useless captain.

Looks like he is staying at Yorkshire now, and available for all cricket.
