If the ECB reverted to the ICC rules on qualification would I be correct to say he'd be eligible for England with effect from 2019?

He'd be able to play now, he has a British passport and last played for the WI U-19 in 2014 but I'm not sure those games even count (they have to be have been 3 years+ beforehand to allow eligibility for another country, so he's well past that anyway)

He should make himself available for the West Indies, he's wasting precious years where he could be in the limelight for the possibility of a future England career. If I were his adviser, I would be telling him to pack his bags for the Caribbean sun and earn as much as he possibly can now, not later.

WI pay a lot less than the ECB, around 25%. They WI board and their disputes with players who want to play overseas T20 tournaments have been well documented so I'm not sure someone who is in high demand from T20 leagues would be financially incentivized to play for the WI.

That's only part of it. International cricketers can get better sponsorship deals, charge higher advertising rates, larger club fees. I think he's been very badly advised. Ask any English footballer who has chosen to play for ROI.

And if he's as good as he's meant to be, it is cricket fans' loss everywhere who are missing out on not seeing him play at the highest level.

If that's the case why are so many of the best WI cricketers not playing for the WI? The game has moved on money wise especially for players from the "smaller nations" it's different for Indian cricketers of course as their sponsorship and advertising deals can be huge.

I don't disagree with the second part but he does feel let down by the WICB from his time when he got injured so there's more to it than just money.

well Jofra is getting a decent wage from Sussex and enhancing it with decent money from 3 competitions around the world, so dont think he'd doing too badly.
He reckons WI let him down badly a while back and doesnt really trust them.

I bet Andre Russell gets considerably more money than Jofra is getting.

probably but Jofra is just starting his career and Andre Russell is an established pro with many years under his belt, so not surprising

Do you not think 50 ODIs and 40+ T20s might also have something to do with it?

Not really. T20 franchises buy players on perceived talent, not reputation based on internationals (and in any case, Archer's stock is higher than a more comparable figure such as, say Alzarri Joseph). Ask Tymal Mills and Joe Root if you want to pull out random examples.

It's so frustrating and disheartening as an England fan to see red tape and bureaucracy stopping this exciting young talent from putting on an England jersey until 2022. I remember when Costa decided he wanted to play football for Spain despite being born and bred in Brazil, one year later and he was running out in a Spain jersey, none of this oh you have to wait x number of years bullsh1t the ECB insist on.

Nice little cameo from Joffra with the bat in the T20 versus The Mighty Glamorgan - 22 not out off 6.

Just been listening to the TMS feature about lack of black cricketers (only eight in the CC). Lack of role models in the national side is cited as a factor. Selecting Archer would probably be helpful in this regard (there wasn’t any mention of him in this feature though).
