Good to see Leach has started the season well at Taunton, already in the wickets despite the early season domination by the seamers.

I suspect you have the wrong Leach, Joe the Worcestershire seamer has taken a few wickets at Taunton. Jack the spinner hasn't bowled a ball yet.

Overnight unbeaten half-centuries for Gary Ballance and Ben Foakes.

Unbeaten ton from the best batsmen not to play for England in my lifetime. 159 runs in the match in a low scoring match is brilliant. Scored at a good rate too.

Bit of competition for that accolade. Worcestershire gave him 3 or 4 lives in this game I believe. One player who always seemed to lose form when he seemed on the verge of selection but a good player without doubt.

Thus far none of the likely batting suspects have done too well: Livingstone, Clarke, Hameed, Jennings, Stoneman all short of runs and just the one decent score for Vince. Foakes pushing as a batsman, possibly? Ballance back in? (God no, please).

Also, what odds on Ollie Pope getting an international call-up in the next twelve months? Started the season well, made a few runs in the North/South series and seems full of talent and invention.

Livingstone 77 runs av 19.25
Jennings 64 championship runs av 16.00
Hameed 31 championship runs av 7.75

all doing better than Chanderpaul. So much for Lancs' top order.

Think Has will be with Lancs 2s before England.

Utterly depressing. I kind of expect that the old days will come along with the next player to metaphorically raise their head above the parapet and score a fair few runs and be touted for a call up and their form to collapse at that point.

Hameed's last dismissal (think it was to Porter) looked absolutely horrible. Wasn't prodigious movement, left it well alone and had his stumps utterly demolished. Really think he needs to leave white ball cricket alone for a while and rebuild his form with long form second 11 stuff, myself.

Is he playing too much white ball cricket? When was the limited over game he played?

Pope does look like one to watch out for. He's a wicket keeper too isn't he?

Everyone at Surrey was a wicketkeeper once!

In preseason for Lancs.

I could be wrong but having been so unflappable he’s totally lost his off stump and it’s a major weakness that has emerged since he started playing 50 over cricket for Lancs, although of course correlation doesn’t imply causation. I just recall Cook’s issues outside off - not that they have been totally rectified - were at their nadir at the end of his ODI career when he couldn’t buy a run in tests, and giving up ODIs seemed to help him focus and get back to his best.

I'm not convinced it's related, seems a convenient target. Also he didn't leave a ball that clipped off stump, he played down the wrong line to one pitching middle and seamed away.

It should be. For me though, the largest issues are at the top of the order and the first 3 spots. Each of those should in theory be up for grabs if Root stays at 4.

Would think Root and Malan at 3 and 4 with the face in at 5 is a possibility again if we decide not to go back to Vince.

Luke Wells, fresh off averaging 64 last season, notches his first hundred of the season and the firstsecond hundred by an opener this season.

Edit: Luis Reece got there first
