We currently sit top in one league and 2nd in the other with a few weeks left in the season. Rather ironically we looked better placed to win the pro40 than the CC though. My question to you guys is would you deem it a successfull season if we won nothing this year and would you be having a few rants at Newell and co. if we ending up picking up a trophy?
Luxury.

Hopefully the ongoing game between the two demons a chasing us ends as a wash-out, or close. That way we'd be level with Somerset and ahead of Durham with equal matches played, I believe. If it came down to us not winning the title though, as it well might, I'd much prefer Durham to win it because they've won more matches than any of their rivals. Somerset could conceivably take the title on the back of just 3 wins with the way the weather is going, amassing bonus points on their ******* of a shirt-front at Taunton.

Ourselves and Durham have 'suffered' to some extent on seaming wickets where the disproportionate amount of bowling points hurts teams somewhat, and also creates a randomness about the result that isn't there on flatter decks. Having out-played Somerset just a few weeks back as well, in a match where we would surely have won, I'd be really disappointed to see the side I perceive as the weaker of the three winning the County Championship.

Ultimately though, here's hoping it's not about who I'd prefer from the other two. We're the leaders at the minute and need a couple of results, perhaps a win and a draw will do it.

Sorry but what a load of twaddle.

Have you actually seen the scores at Taunton this year? Hardly a road is it? I would argue that Notts and Durham have avoided the shocking weather this year by having such difficult pitches. The Durham Kent game being a perfect example. Every other game was a draw but not there where about 160 overs were needed for a result. I am shocked anyone supports Durham after they got away with that pitch!!

On a different point I am a massive Read fan but his keeping seems to be a little weaker than it used to be.

We've lost this. Anyway the comms all seem to love TB now.

Apparently those crappy portacabins will be removed soon and the pavilion front restored to its former glory. Fantastic news. I had heard it earlier but this reminded me - the people in there will be moved to the new block under the screen won't they?

Edit on the pitches - if they aren't going to do anything about the 2 day pitch at Durham (had it not been for bad light) then what the hell is the point of them? I think someone else pointed out an example where a non Test match county had been punished with points for a pitch not as bad as that.

I always find it hard to see Durham as a proper county team, but I guess I cant help but prefer it to be them than the southern club. However, were it between Somerset and Yarkshire, I'd be firmly in the Somerset camp!

Oh yes, defo Durham over Somerset... They benefit more from their pitch - and consistently - than Durham do imho.

As a FC County, Durham are 16 years old so technically all county cricketers are older.

As a CC, they were founded in 1882.

I guess making it up to even numbers made things easier for 2 divisional systems. Still a shame though.
