Pillans: 22 overs 0 for 98 no doubt saving it for the Roses match.

should apply to all counties of course. Imagine in football if teams could sign star players for the season run in. The issue should be addressed.

Yes it is. We would have one of the best bowling attacks in the country and we would also have convinced the Best keeper of his generation to continue.

10. Craig Overton
11. Jamie Overton

The transfer window is relatively new to football. Transfers used to occur throughout the season with a deadline on the final Thursday in March.

Aren't some of the players like Pillans, Slater and Duckett technically on loan, even though they've already agreed to join those counties? Perhaps the loan system needs revising?

Whatever the merits of how players move between counties is now, watching Duckett bat on Monday made me realise what strong T20 batting line up Notts will have next season. We could have a top 8 of:

1. Hales
2.Wessels
3.Duckett
4.Moores
5.Christian
6. Patel
7. Coughlin
8.Mullaney

And that's assuming whoever is the second overseas is going to be a bowler.

A name new to me (I don't see any second XI cricket), Lyndon James, is in the squad for tomorrow. As is Will Fraine. No Riki Wessels again though.

Good to see proper opening batsmen at Trent Bridge for the first time in absolutely ages (in Notts colours, at least).

Don't be surprised if Brathwaite is taken on as Notts overseas for the first half of next season. West indies are not scheduled to have a test until mid July and given the many T20 tournaments and the World Cup, he is one of the few who can pretty much guarantee to be available.

Can remember the march deadline, was thinking of something like that. The present situation is ridiculous. Until recently in cricket players only moved between seasons.

Good to hear. I can't think of a decent opening partnership since Gallian and Bicknell!

Did you see Fletcher's catch the other day? Was a bit special that.

If the loan system was changed, these players /counties would void their contracts and they would still move.

There is already a rule, aimed at stopping overseas players being drafted in, about not playing new players on finals day. If this was extended to cup tie - or competition tie -players each year mid season movements would be less attractive. Wouldn't stop season long loans or Andersson to Derbyshire type which give youngsters a chance.

Zak Chappell to Notts confirmed:

Probably also explains why Milnes chose to go to Kent.

It probably needs some sort of transfer/registration deadline, around teh end fo the T20 group phase, after which only players who haven't already appeared in the Championship can be registered or loaned out.

It's interesting. Millnes has done OK this season, not spectacular but shows enough against decent players to suggest he has something. 11 wickets at 48 isn't great though. If you're Notts do you look elsewhere, especially if you can see someone with batting potential too?

I'm disappointed that we can't find more time to develop our own players more. However, the expectations at Trent Bridge are for success, sometimes that comes at a price.

I was at TB yesterday. A lot of the talk was that Riki is not happy, and may be leaving. It's only hearsay, so I couldn't vouch for its veracity, but the story is that he wasn't happy with being passed over for the captaincy at Surrey recently in favour of Samit. Allegedly he has refused to play for the Second XI.

Durham has been mooted as a likely destination.

Wasn't Riki made the scapegoat two seasons ago when we got relegated? I remember only one of the senior batsmen being dropped and it was him. With the signings something has to give and it won't be Samit despite him having a very poor season (27 with the bat and 47 with the ball).

Ben Duckett can do Riki's job in the shorter forms. He's done well for Notts but at nearly 33 it's difficult to see how he is part of the way forward now.

with all these signings will Notts need to unload somebody to stay within the wage cap.

Milnes and Wessels by the sounds of things....though Samit has been woeful this season....he won't go though.

Lets hope we are not starting next season in Div 2, another hopeless performance has meant we might have to gain at least a draw at home to Somerset to stay up.

In defence of the signings, we have had a lot of batting retirements and lost Coughlin to injury all summer, Ball has been out for the last month and now Gurney is injured....still not great that we can't produce decent batsmen though.

I doubt it. Unlike many first division counties, Notts don't fill their squad with Kolpaks or other imports unlike, say, Surrey, Essex and Lancashire, who have effectively employed two overseas players and Hampshire, who have employed more!
